Hey Molly,

I echo what everyone else said--get to an opthamologist ASAP! If the standing appointment you have is more than a day away, then please, please call in today and ask for an emergency appointment. Literally every day you wait increases the chances that you will cause serious damage to your eye that can include permanent scarring, damage to the iris, and, as others mentioned, blindness. At the very least, if you wait to long you run the risk of having to endure a steroid shot directly into your eye--trust me, I know this one firsthand. The very first time I had iritis when I was 18, I had no idea what was wrong with my eye and I waited weeks before I went to the doctor. They tried using the eye drops to treat it first, but when that failed, they said I either had to have the shot or lose the eye--easy decision! I won't go into details about what the shot was like other than to say is is really, really high on my list of things I don't ever want to do again. If I sound alarmist, well, I don't even think I can apologize for that--the symptoms you described in your last post up above are absolutely THE classic iritis symptoms and describe my worst attacks to the letter. The red ring around the iris and the sensitivity o light are the real giveaways.

You say you've had iritis before--do you still have any of the steroid drops they gave you to treat it on those other occasions? It would most likely be PredForte drops, but I have heard of other steroids being used. If you do, I would strongly encourage you to start using the drops in the affected eye at the rate of one drop per hour or every couple hours. My eye doctor told me to go ahead and do this anytime I thought I had iritis, and others here have said the same thing. Even if it turns out to be a false alarm (which would totally shock me!), the drops don't cause any harm over a short period.

Good luck!

Brad
