Man is meant to be a good steward of the land, but that doesn't mean that we should lower our standards of living or put trees and nature on a pedestal as if it were a God.

What really bothers me is people who go around the world in big oil burning jets and ride in fancy oil burning cars while the are telling everyone else how they should live. These environmentalists should live the life they preach. They are just a bunch of hypocrites.

Actually according to the latest USGS report there is not a lot of Oil left in Alaska. There is currently no pipeline to move what undiscovered oil/gas is there. Thus there is at least a 10 - 20 year delay before any of it gets to market as we build pipelines and transprt. It is also only recoverable at about $70 - $90 a barrel so it won't bring the price of gas down much if at all. I have a couple of friends who are petroleum engineers and Alaska is not where it is at anymore. There is a lot of natural gas but we have a glut of that in the US and prices are to low for them to build the pipelines and go after it unless they get huge tax breaks and government incentives which is what they want.. Your tax dollars at work.

most of the environmentalists I know drive Hybrids and are switching to LED bulbs (that is who they sell to) I have a hybrid and my house is almost totally LED lit. Saves me money is why I do it

There is little cheap oil left other than Fracking the sandstone. The deep ocean oil in the gulf is also expensive to drill for. If we stay on Oil it will stay expensive. The oil lobby often fails to mention that. Old timer is right we won't run out of the stuff but it won't be cheap ever again.

Corn ethanol should be done away with period. Putting food into a gas tank is not wise and it saves little if any energy

Can you believe that there were subsidies removed from the 2010 budget because of the fact of pricing pressure of foods all across the board from such subsidies. This year they just reinstated them knowing full well of the repercussions. Insane. Even the green movement now recognizes that ethanol is in fact a very bad way to produce renewable resources. A huge increase of fertilizers and pesticides and food prices for everyone!
