Driz, I don't quite understand your numbers there. Are you stating that it takes 18 gallons of oil per acre to grow corn versus 127 gallons of oil per acre to grow rapeseed (used for canola oil) and 5,000+ for micro algae...or is this some sort of oil equivalent as in for every gallon of oil one needs 18 gallons of corn (corn is actually measured in bushels)? I don't understand, help me out.
I'm with mom on the GMO corn (franken-corn). Better in my gas tank than in my belly. However, I'm with Driz in that the land could be put to more productive use (i.e. growing non-GMO crops to meet growing food demand). However, the same is true of the canola (rapeseed) oil; better in my tank than in my belly.
Seb, it is nice to encounter someone that thinks critically about these things; especially someone your age. I could rant a novella about some of these issues, but time and place dictate my requirement to defer.
