That is a pretty bold statement especially since the biologics can be considered a pretty effective treatment for a lot of AS sufferers. Research is also refining our comprehension of the disease's mechanisms and we now understand a lot better what genes are involved in the inflammation and fusion processes.

Stating as a fact that "The direction of research into this disease will not produce anything resembling a cure, or even effective treatments within (y)our lifetime(s)" is very pessimistic.
