I just wanted to say Hello to everyone, i was gone for over a month as i had a really bad flare. They have switched me to Ms contin for pain, helps but sure makes you groggy, hope this will wear off soon.
The Doctors think i may have a leaking Aorta valve and are going to do some heart tests. Anyone else have this and can they fix it with meds.
Everyone have a good day.

Good to see you back on board, but bad that you had to stay away because you were feeling so bad. Never have had any heart problems, just wanted to say hi.

Hey Rick , Glad your back with us . Do the Doc's think the leaky heart valve is AS related ? And how did you come to find out about the leaky valve , do you have some symptoms to go with it ?Reason for all the questions is my heart seems to beat funny at times , i have wore one of those 24 hour monitor things and the doc said i checked ok. Talk Later.

Hi Bruce, I had to go for a medical with the Military to upgrade my disibilty pension. It was an extensive medical and two of the Doctors thought they could detect a murmur , which they said could be a leaky valve. I have to go have a simple echogram which will show it for sure. The Doctor said it would be more than likely related to the AS. I will keep you posted as far as symptons go the only thing was that i would get extremely fatiqued.

Hi Rick. My valve is leaky! :-) Mine has been very symptomatic, I even fainted in a class once when I missed a few too many beats (that was exciting!). That is the incident which finally got my doctors to pay attention and an echocardiogram showed "mitral valve prolapse with mild regurgitation." Later it was decided I also have dysautonomia in conjuction with it. I take antibiotics before dental cleanings/procedures as a precaution against infections, and I have managed to control the symptoms pretty well with medication (beta blockers and related meds) and unfortunate diet changes--no refined sugar or caffiene. No sugar is the part that makes it so complicated. Glad to see you back!

Dissection of the aorta can be AS related, though most cases are stress related (hypertension). Mild cases can be treated with drugs, severe cases require surgery.

Thanks for the response on the heart issue, the only problems I have had lately is feeling dizzy when I stand up from a kneeling position. This usually happens at a store or library when I'm looking at something on the bottom shelf. Anyway I'll keep you all posted if it turns out to be anything related to the AS.

I seem to have an intermittant leaky valve-it appears 1 of the leaflets is calcified and sometimes doesn't close properly. Never had a problem-doc picked it up on an exam-said the valve made a clicking noise-sent me for an ultrasound and they found it-but the majority of the time Dr's can't pick it up with a stethoscope. so apparently most of the time it works properly. Hope yours is not serious enough for surgery and gets better.
