Users hold their data on their own devices, the app developers will never have access to this.
To backup their data, users can sign up with an email account, which is provided by Google Firebase, with industrial-level security. Again this will only be used to recover data if users accidentally delete their apps or change devices, and not for anything else.
This backup database does not hold personal or identifiable information except the users' account ID (their email).
Users can email their scores to their doctor from the app if they wish. The second release (if funded) will also give AS suffers in the UK an unintrusive option to participate in research using questionnaires. If it goes ahead, it will be regulated by research ethics committee code of conduct in the UK.
The top priority (according to the National AS society) in AS research at the moment is how to define a flare.
