Bravo Madam,

I will be there on a senior nite during your run, but will try to get in by insisting that I am on the list and was supposed to have tickets set aside for me.

The set looks wonderful and the poster is simply amazing, real professional,I wonder what it looked like BEFORE you had your hand in it. wink wink

GOOD LUCK OPENING NIGHT....ON WITH THE SHOW!!!

I can not defeat you but I will not let you win

I think people who get to do what they love are the luckiest people. Good luck on the show!

That's so very cool. Opening your show. Best of luck.

I did notice an omission on the set or at least near the set. Didn't see any big security types to keep the hoi polloi and such as Alan away or keep out any rogue ice houses meandering the world.

I only mention this because Bruno does love a good night at the theatre and security is his forte. He is also helpful when someone says break a leg.

Never thought of the possibility of Alan in the icehouse/shedmobile gatecrashing the performance crazy

You're right, Steve! Kat may need some big security guards at all the stage entrances. shocked

Looks great, Kat! Wish I could go. Too bad there can't be a special KickAS performance that we could all crash. yes

Thank you, Paul.

I hope you and the lovely Miss P are doing well. It's been far too long since you were here.

Warm hugs,

Based on the same book, written by Vera Caspary and published in 1942. I actually got my hands on a 1943 edition as part of my research for the show.

Very different from the movie, however. Not so much glamour, no Gene Tierney in that freaking amazing gown she wears to a party. Dear god, I want that dress.

Also, jazz plays a huge role in the play. Not going near the theme to the movie - too soft and sappy, and far too associated with the movie. I've chosen Jelly Roll Morton (with Billy Cato on the slide horn in one tune), Muggsy Spanier, very early Benny Goodman (from the 20s - people who only know his late 30s/early 40s stuff really haven't heard him play) and equally early Louis Armstrong (some with Lil Hardin on the piano). Been working on the music all week, actually.

And the relationship between Laura and the detective is much more fleshed out in the play - makes more sense at the end than the movie does. Very close to the book, actually. I made my leads read the book because of the wealth of character information in its pages. Wonderful stuff!!

I've set it at the end of August 1945, so the war in Europe is over and the one in the Pacific is about to end officially (September 2). Hiroshima has already happened (August 6), with Nagasaki close behind. The detective mentions the case pushing the Atomic Age off the front page at one point, which has to be a reference to the bomb being dropped in Japan.

Anyway, I'm getting pretty excited. Can you tell? grin

Warm hugs,

Kat

You will be watching some incredibly talented young actors do some truly fine work. I knew who I wanted for my two leads when I put my proposal in to direct the show. I was so relieved when they booked auditions (after a bit of prompting from me). They were in "Hay Fever", actually. The detective played my son, Simon, and Laura played the young flapper, Jackie.

My god, I want my own reperatory theatre company so I don't have to go through the audition process. Just offer the role to the person I want to have it.

If you come, let me know which night and I'll arrange to join you. Yes, we could have dinner at Dr. Generosity. I agree with your assessment of the sweet potato fries and maple dip completely!!

Warm hugs,

Kat
