Chris, I would suspect the same thing about the lack of integrity of the scientist. No surprise there. I am at the point where I am not asking anyone for help (have left my drs) but researching and experimenting on my own because the bottom line is nobody prioritizes my own best interests but myself. There are those days when I can't walk though and my husband drags me gently to the ER for more xrays, I suppose that will never end for many of us. Sorry to hear about your disappointing reply from the NP winner but it does validate my decision to take things into my own hands, meaning, if the scientists can't be trusted, why would I trust my rheumy? Thank you for sharing and best wishes for a comfortable day.

Yes, but your local chapter should have its membership criteria easily accessible. While you don't have a firm dx, it is definite there's something going on with you that causes great pain. If your doctor were willing to confirm that, it might be enough. Especially if it gives you access to a salve or a tincture or something else non-ingestible that will help mitigate your pain.

Let me know how it goes, OK?

Warm hugs,

I think it's great your ready to create a life now. The pill this pill that can get old so very quickly. but then, so can the dealing with the pain. My Dr. asked me if I wanted anything for pain. I just looked at him. A lot of other stuff work for me, you've found out a lot by yourselve. exercise, non-habit analgesic, and having a healthy out look on life. ( of course, managing pain can aid that goal greatly).
Good going. Hope whatever you decide to do, you give it all and go for the gusto.

Aw geez, optimist I feel like a jerk.

I really didn't want to give you the impression that I don't approve of doctors or that I think anyone should avoid doctors. Exactly the opposite in fact.

I'm a fan of science and know first hand that doctors can save lives. There is no doubt about it, we have excellent medical care available to us in developed nations. That doesn't mean that all doctors are suited to all patients, often it comes right down to personality more than anything but I do believe strongly that everyone should go in and see a doctor from time to time and those who are sick ought to keep close tabs on their doctors and make sure they work them like a team, not kneel before them and kiss their feet. Wow, was that a run-on sentence or what?

The best doctors seem to be the ones who welcome input from their patients and work with them as opposed to decreeing laws from on high. I haven't met any doctors who didn't appreciate that I could converse with them on a level where they could recognize that I had actually taken the time to learn a few things about my disease. I find that they appreciate it, it makes for very quick appointments (or not).

I suppose the guy is running a business, paying for all the space, equipment, nurses, admin and cleaning staff...I ought to cut the guy a little bit of slack? Rheumies are specialists but they aren't neuro-surgeons, they're people who spent years and years studying the human body and how it works.

Some people would probably feel the same way about counseling although I got fed up with it myself. In the end, I guess it's just a matter of personal choice.

Besides, I don't want to waste another breath (I am actually whispering while I type) ...lol Rats, I forgot what I was gonna say now.

Oh right, I don't waste another breath defending DOCTORS! Personally, I'd prefer to work exclusively with nurses. They've got the hands on approach to medicine and often know things the doctors don't...or won't accept for whatever reasons.

Short version: I like doctors but I like nurses even more.

Later folks...I need a nap,

Chris

hello all,
what do you think is the 'cleanest' way to smoke? (yes, i realize that's an oxymoron.)
i finally got a medical mj authorization...went to the local dispensary (there are about 5 within walking distance of my house in LA!!) and since i was a first-time customer i got a free cookie & pipe, in addition to my purchase.

the pipe is just a cheap little glass thing...no filter or anything. do pipes normally have a filter? would a bong/bubbler be better? at this stage i can't afford a vaporizer..

and just a quick note on effectiveness: i tried smoking before i went to bed and i still woke up around 4 or 5 a.m. with insane s.i. joint pain. on sunday a.m. i was awoken by pain so i decided that since i didn't need to be at work or drive anywhere that day, i'd smoke and see if i could go back to bed and lay down (let alone sleep!...it's an accomplishment to just be able to lay down horizontally with the joint pain). well, lo & behold, i was able to lay down AND sleep for about 2 more hours. smile

if you're worried about the negative effects of smoking, you could save up for a vaporizer, or have a play with baking. water-filtered utensils also work quite well, I've found it is very nice to add a squeeze of lemon and a couple drops (don't go overboard here!!) of tea tree oil to hot bongwater. this is wonderful if you have any congestion!

unless you're smoking large quantities regularly it's not likely to have any detrimental effect though. usually the only problems people have from smoking is a slightly decreased lung capacity (this is temporary) and a cough. note that this is simply due to the properties of smoke, not because you are smoking cannabis.

pipes don't usually have a filter but if the hole in the conepiece is particularly large they may have a piece of gauze to stop smoking material falling through. as long as you are smoking solid chunks of bud and thte hole isn't too big it doesn't usually need anything.
