For those people who were asking about making yogurt here are some links I found useful.

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/yoghurt_scd.htm

http://curezone.com/blogs/fm.asp?i=974378

http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html

I chose goats milk yogurt to begin with, because it is supposed to be easier to digest. The starter I use is this:

http://www.healthytraders.com/yogourmet-freeze-dried-yogurt-starterculture-p-1678.html

I also follow SCD's advice and use a new starter each time, instead of using previously homemade yogurt.

I usually "cook" mine for closer to 48 hours.... just to age out even more lactose.

Feel free to ask, if there are any other questions.
Stacey

Yes thanks for great links!

On one of them I noticed a comment about avoiding bifidus, which is in lots of probiotics and some yogurts. That made me curious so I found that the SCD diet folks think it overgrows and disturbs balance

This starter was recommended on the goat yogurt page: has the "right" 3 cultures.

I'm going to order some soon!

thanks for the links Stacey. It's comprehensive, nice post.

Has someone experiencing eat yoghurt and it's fine while it can caused flare when eat milk? I really want to try yoghurt but i still trauma because i drink milk 1.5 month ago and caused me a bad flare which made me barely move and can't work..

I read about the lactose caused that, and in yogurt it broke down to galactose and it' safe.. but some said that it's casein that can cause flare. And casein is one of the worst protein that can't be digested.. and it's not be broken down in yoghurt

I don't drink milk so I've never been able to say it caused a flair. I currently am trying to stay away from dairy - but sometimes use yogurt as a condiment - for instance, I had a dollop on a savory almond flour pancake with salad yesterday. I was feeling pretty stinky last night, but much better this morning, so I think I spent too much time on my feet yesterday and hopefully not diet connected.

There is less lactose and less milk protein which triggers true allergies in yogurt - so it might be more tolerable. And going with the goat would be even better - goat milk easier to digest and the proteins more closely resemble human milk so supposedly much easier on us people.

Hey Light - do you use raw goat milk when you make yours? I just checked out the pecanbread link and their listed suppliers - sure enough, there's one not to far from me. But the grocery store down the road has the brand i see everywhere. Just wondering your take and how important it is?

vegetarian, if you want to try yogurt: go for the goat yogurt like Light does (and like mcm recommended). The casein in goat milk is much less problematic; even little babies allergic to cow's milk can often handle goat milk (was true for one of my grandfathers for instance). With the lactose aged out of it and all those good bugs, should be quite healthful.
