If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

thanks Shauna - i just responded to another post about this and thought I should add here: i've been taking low-dose minocycline for over a year prescribed by my dermatologist for acne. I let my prescription run out and have felt quite sick, but also not being as strict on nsd as I should. I'm back on the mino, watching my diet, taking fish oil and feeling sooo much better.
However - my derm is pulling the plug on my mino prescription after this latest round, what i'm taking isn't approved for long-term. So... will contact roadback. mary cay

Thanks, Shauna I've heard about the antibiotic treatment now you've explained it to me. This treatment was not offered to me when I got DX 10 years ago. I've heard... and I would certainly not want to upset or offend you in ANY WAY - I totally respect and understand your course of action - but I heard that the antibiotic treatment is good to kick-start the diet by wipeing out the Kleb - but not to be done too frequently because of how the Antibiotics wipe out good as well as bad antibodies - therefore weakening you immune system... Please feel free to correct me if this is not the advice you have been given - I would not want to contradict what you've been told or confuse you. Hope this works out well for you, Shauna - good luck, hon.

Oh no problem. You are so nice, you wouldn't offend me. I appreciate you trying to help. I haven't talked to her yet,so I don't know how she will do it.I think low dose long term should be ok for yrs not to make the bacteria resistant, people do it all the time, but I could prob do higher doses for shorter periods.I don't know, but I am so excited to be doing this cause it will make it easier.
I think what you mean is wiping out the good bacteria possibly causing overgrowth of candida and clostridium and I plan to ask her all that but I think not eating too much sugar and a good probiotic helps and if i feel I am getting candida,I will just test myself and let the doc know. I certainly don't want to take sulfasalazine if this will work better and has less side effects, though.I gotta be in perfect shape by May for my trip! I'm crossing my fingers!
Off antibiotics and now exploring mindbody healing.

Her name is Dr Kittley.I'm very excited to go to her!I will have to drive 3 hrs. I found her thru roadback.org (John told me about it) and email apdoctors@roadback.org and tell them what you have and where you are and ask for a list of docs in your area and they will send it to you!I plan on probably doing long term low dose tetracycline (if my culture is sensitive-that's what she traditionally uses for many yrs on her patients and has good success) and LSD instead of NSD. Good for you! Wonder if you'd mind doing me a favor... could you ask Dr Kittley about what lab she uses for testing the antibiotic sensitivities? The reason I ask: my primary care doctor is game for trying antibiotics on "auto-immune" diseases, but the labs he normally deals with said they don't do kleb cultures because "Currently, standard texts provide no specific antimicrobial guidelines for GI overgrowth of Klebsiella"

Oh right, That's all very interesting to know. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this to me. It's always good to know about all options available to you - you never know when you may need them! Good luck with it and hope you have a great trip, Shauna. It's always lovely to chat to you, hon.

SJLC, Shauna and all, I just picked up a book i've been eyeing at my pharmacy - Dr. Brownstein's Overcoming Arthritis - he's very big into natural hormone therapy to help with autoimmune diseases, he's found most patients to be deficient in several hormones, doesn't know if its a result of the disease or one of the causes but that treating it can help symptoms. Anyway... the 1st chapter is on Antibiotic therapy, discusses Roadback and Dr. Brown's work. He lists testing facilities. The book's copyright is 2001, so don't know if the info is valid today and don't know about kp testing. He specifically mentions mycoplasma and its involvement in rheumatoid, fibro and cfs. But thought i'd go ahead a share: specific antibody testing - The Arthritis Research Center, Bethesda, 301-216-1231 PCR Testing - Immunosciences Lab - 310-657-1077 I don't believe this has anything to do with antibiotic sensitivity testing, but, once again, wanted to share. And the book so far has only covered Mycobacterium , yet provided a table with infectious causes of arthritis (interestingly enough, kp not on list, maybe before Ebringer's work). The table listing diseases that may have an infectious etiology also does not list Ankylosing Spondylitis, but lists: Reiter's, PsA, Crohn's, UC, among many others. Take what you will and leave the rest, so to speak Can't wait to hear about your appointment, Shauna! Mary Cay

I used low dose minocycline for about 6 months and it made a huge different for me. I took a break for a while and tried to work on gut healing for awhile (I do think it slows that process down a bit) but have recently started again. My low back and SI joints are mostly pain free, but I still have trouble with neck pain so I thought I'd see if I can get that under control, since it worked so well for my SI pain. Time will tell. The neck pain is so much easier to deal with and not as severe, though, so I'm happy about that.
Mary Cay, Dr. Brownstein's book looks really interesting. I'm going to look for that. I also just recently started using bio-identical hormones because my naturopath has a similar theory about them and convinced me they might help my inflammation (as well as my hot flashes lol). I guess time will tell about that as well.
Denise
