If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I think it's possible that I may have the flu. My stepson started coming down with what we think is the flu and I've been keeping my distance, but it's starting up with me. I've had my regular flu shot, not the h1n1. I'm keeping an eye on my temperature and if it shoots up, I'll go in somewhere - you guys have any ideas or advice on trying to lessen the blow? Any help would be appreciated!

Not sure I have suggestions to lessen the blow except to rest and take care of yourself. It's confusing because the regular flu and H1N1 have similar symptoms. Have read that although fever is listed as a symptom, not everyone gets a fever. If you have doubts or begin to feel worse, better to get checked out sooner due to the meds you're on. Although it's the weekend, maybe you can phone your doctor for advice? Hope you feel better soon.

STAY HOME. Sleep. soup. Airborne. Tea. All those things. Really. But the most important is don't panic. Be vigilant, but don't panic, it's much worse than the actual flu. Feel better! let us know. -Bridget

Hi Misty,
There is an anti-viral medication called Tamiflu, however I'm not sure it's available where you live (I'm in Canada). I do not know much about it other than it is not a miracle cure but is suppose to help limit the flu to a 'normal course' so that it doesn't become too bad. The problem with Tamiflu or other anti-virals (from the little I know) is they only work if you start them within 48 hrs of the first signs of infection, otherwise they're fairly useless apparently.
I would try not to worry too much but you should seek medical attention if you develop any sign of a secondary bacterial chest infection.
Oh and if you are scheduled for an infusion soon, it's advised we put it off until feeling in good health again.
I hope it proves to be mild and that you'll be feeling well again soon! mig

DON'T PANIC
I can't remember where I saw these words before but it's the first thing that popped into my mind:)
Like Mig said, you can't go in for your scheduled infusion if you're sick so you might have to postpone it until you're better.
You're already watching your temperature and have a plan to go to the hospital if you are really worried...sounds to me like you have everything under control.
Hopefully, you and your whole family will get over this flu and carry on with business just as you always have. I'm one of those people who believe this whole thing got blown way out of proportion.
How does that saying go? Starve a fever and feed a cold or is it the other way around?
Chris

I hope it is not the flu. I would be watchful and call my dr. if my temp got very high and stayed there or if you have trouble breathing. Just the usual things that you have to watch for.
I have taken the Tamiflu in the past and it does help. I am not sure how your dr. will feel with you being immunosuppressed because Tamiflu does affect the immune system to fight the flu.
I will be thinking of you. Rest well.

Misty,
I sure hope that you aren't getting sick especially on remicade, that is a biggy with me too.
I would say like Mig, if you feel pretty sure that it is, have your Dr. call in tamaflu it is suppose to help lessen the horriblenes of it by a few days. I thought I was coming down with it but when I realized I wasn't I didn't take it, so I still have mine.
I would also say keep an eye on your temp. since I have been on remicade my temp has gone from a usual 98.6 to 99.5 down to 97.0 so if I am at 100.0 that is a 3 degree temp for me.
Try and do all the usual hand washing..ect AND I would get some of those disposable masks and where them especially if someone in your house is sick. My Dr. wants me to where them at church and the stores (but I have politely declined for now..lol)
I sure hope you don't get it.

I'm echoing getting to your doctor and getting some Tamiflu. It is suppose to lessen the blow of the virus. Take good care of yourself. Lots of fluids and definately let your rheumy know (if indeed it is h1n1) so they can plan your remicade accordingly.
Get well soon! Jewelz
