I have had pain in my right knee for a few months.. it is now also in my left knee, and getting worse. The first coritisone shot helped but the last two did nothing.. after a week in disney world I had to use a scooter the entire time..Thank god the scooter it saved me! I can hardly walk, I don't know what to do.. the methotrexate is not helping, the enbrel did not help. I can barely walk at all even with a cane. Anyone have this problem.. any suggestions?
Please!
Thanks,
MB

i have a physiatrist (doctor of physical medicine / rehabilitative medicine) and i go to PT quite often. sounds like something that this kind of team could help you with. even when a body part is at a point that seems like a point of no return for me, this team can often help me get it under control again.

I have had major knee pain in my right knee since June. the left knee bothers me as well but not the point of the right.. there are times when i just can not go up stairs. I did have my ortho surgeon check them last Oct and he told me that i have no cartlidge left and am looking at replacements ( not something that I want right now) . I have made an appointment with him for tomorrow (provided that we don't get the storm that is on the way) to get my first shot of cortisone in it.. I am hoping that this will work..
I am not at the point that you are at so maybe you should get them rechecked and follow Sues advice ,, Good luck in whatever you chose to do..

Take care
Valerie

I don't know what to tell you. My knees only started hurting in the last eight months or so. So far it's mainly an annoying distraction except for stairs - I'm extra cautious on any sort of staircase.
I can still get around with my nifty cane!

I wish you luck with your treatments, hopefully you can find a way to get mobility back.

I would say it all started in my knees (that is where I first felt inflammation). Something that has helped me tremendously is going up the way my yoga instructor taught me: back straight (ha ha) and no leaning forward (almost feel like you are leaning back), tail tucked under (make your lower back long as possible), feet absolutely parallel and heels down. Don't go up on your toes. At first this is a bit of a work out for previously un-used muscles, but there is almost no stress on my knees... I make it to my third floor roof garden almost 20 times a day now.

I started to have pain in my left knee in 2007 started on strontium. Have been taking it for a year now and no more knee pain. In fact I was also getting pain in my right hip if I slept on it too long. That is gone as well.
My last bone density test was great.
Strontium have no side effects. And is cheap ordered it on the Internet.

Hi nelly,

I had awful pain in left knee. It had swollen to the point where I couldn't bend it. My rheumy drained it (over 100ml) and cortisone into the joint. It felt fantastic for a couple of days. It started to recur soon after though. I've coincided it with starting the NSD and so far it's been fine. I've been on the NSD for 4 weeks now and I feel better than I have for years.

Hope this is of some help.

James

Hi MB and welcome to KA.

I'm sorry to hear you're in such pain with your knees. As you can see, you aren't alone with that. I hope you find your answers soon.

Hugs,

Kat

I have had knee pain since 1980's and had right knee replaced in 2005. Dr said he didn't like to do that for a person as young as I was because the replacement only last about 20 years... I did try all the meds and shots they came up with and nothing seem to help... After my surgery my dr stated the x-rays didn't begin to show all the damage I had... so he told me any time I am ready he will do the other knee...but it seems to be holding up so far but to tell the true my left knee is much less painful since I had my right replaced.
