Oh, it's so pretty up there! So do you just hang out in the mine, soaking up the radiation or whatever it is? (and, apparently, writing on the walls? lol) I left you some comments . . . LOVE the rocking chair pic!
Hugs,
Bridge

Wow Megan... I love looking through your photography! Love all the wood textures and structural beams in the mine, very cool. You really have an eye.

Cheers!

Megan,
Hi! My brother-in-law, suddenly had spent too much time in the mine and had trouble walking about the third or fourth day. Please be careful about the amount of time down there,ok?
100 lbs of terriorist, some guards are just oout of it I think? Maybe they are just jealous of Glen?

All this talk of boarder crossing problems is making me nervous. I am going to Montreal at the end of the month. Maybe it will be coming back into the US that is the hard part.

Nah. You'll be fine. Everyone on both sides is just trying to do their job. Just allow for extra time, just in case you need it.

I'm getting kind of hard up for entertainment down here in the mine today....

So...Day 3.
Logged 7 hours today, to make 15 total. Lots of sitting around trying to entertain myself....
Not sleeping well - I generally don't when I'm away from home. So, being tired I'm not getting much writing/work done.
No changes to mention, nothing good, nothing bad, but I'm still taking prednisone (15mg now) and enbrel. I keep hearing of all sorts of side effects of radon, but I'm not feeling any of it yet.

Hey Bridge (and Lentil)!
I just saw the Kenny Chesney comment! haha Glen gets that all the time, especially with that hat. I can't see it, but oh well, he's cute no matter what!
And ya, you just sit there and chill for hours a day.... I need lots of breaks... the downstairs mine is very chilly, but there are heaters around. The radon room upstairs (air piped in from downstairs) is kept at room temp.
Glad you liked the pics... I need to add descriptions now hey...
This area is SO pretty.

Hi Megan, enjoying your updates, the mine looks quite cool from your photos. Just to give you an update re Jachymov, I am now into my third week. During the second week I did have an increase in pain in various parts of my body,I still have pain now but it seems to have reduced a bit, it may be wishful thinking but I hope not. I will do a full report when I get back home which is the end of this week.
Hope the mines have good biological effects on you, keep the updates coming.

many regards Gumshoe

Wow, so now I truely understand why other kickasers who have done radon therapy keep it on the down low.

Ok so I'm bored out of my tree and kind of cranky due to lack of sleep, but if anyone else feels the need to email or PM me and tell me I'm nuts for doing what I'm doing, or just waisting my time and money - you can BITE ME. With all due respect, of course. Especially if you haven't yet tried this yourself. I'm not spending YOUR time or money, and I'm not criticizing your choice of treatment, so just shut it, mkay? I've had some rather shockingly rude tidbits of advice being sent my way, and if you (and you know who you are) send me anymore, I will post them here for the rest of the world to see. Sorry for being harsh. Thanks ever so much and have a great day.

To the rest of you who have sent me lots of support and hugs, you really do make my day! It's much appreciated when a girl is flaring and bored and away from home all at the same time. You guys make Kickas the place it's supposed to be, and I thank-you for that.

Hang in there Megan

If you get past the emotion there is good support in research for what you are doing. The doseage of 32 hrs at the mine is not much worse than getting a CAT scan and most people would not hesitate to get one of those.

People freak out when they hear Radon and don't bother to understand the dose and research.

If you did this the rest of your life for 30 years it increases your chances of getting a cancer to about 1 in a 1000 cases. heck the TNF drugs will probably turn out to be just as bad as Radon for generating a cancer.

You are getting less radiation exposure than is considered safe in the workforce. I think the mine gives you .6 rems over the 32 hours while the US government says there is no effect on the body at up to 5rems of radiation. There is a nice safety net there.

Link:

ENSURING SAFETY
Either type of badge can provide information on personnel radiation exposure. The story told by the older radiographers to the new ones is not true: the badges do not provide safety through some process of radiation shielding. The safety comes about only if the badge is conscientiously worn by the personnel involved and turned in as required (Burnett et al., 2002; Bush, 2001).

Table 1 Whole body radiation exposure effects

Amount Effect
3 mSv (0.3 rem) per year (natural radiation) Not detectable
50 mSv (5 rem) per year (occupation limit) Not detectable
250 mSv (25 rem) short exposure (acute) Temporary blood changes
500 mSv (50 rem) exposure (acute) Illness (flulike symptoms)
2 Sv (200 rem) exposure (acute) First deaths occur
6 Sv (600 rem) exposure (acute) 50 to 100% fatal
