Hello hello,

Well this was to be day 1 for me, but a late start and being seriously detained at the border didn't help.

So we (bf and I) arrived at the Boulder Hot Springs just before it closed up for the night, and didn't have time to see the mine yet.

Note to all Canadians: Do NOT mention anything about radon, mines, therapy, ankylos...spondyl..who (they seriously said they needed to know my EXACT affliction) to border crossing guards. They will think you are INSANE and/or a terrorist. All cute little 100lbs of me. Apparently you NEED to have confirmation of accomodation to cross the border (ya, whatever). I'm surprised I didn't get arrested throwing a fit. Yes I know, I don't look sick, I get it.

Next time Glen and I have agreed to lie and say we're eloping to Vegas. Apparently it's more believable. kidding

Good Luck Megan

I have to laugh. I went to Calgary a month a go and got held up going into Canada. Seems I had some beer in the car, Old Milwaukee which is not sold in Canada. I was taking it up at the request of a friend who tried it here and wants some every chance he gets. I thought they were going to make me pour it out LOL but they finally so OK next time don't bring in so much.

Megan Dahling;
Oh, I understand the border-crossing issues . . . lol. The last time we went up to Canada, when my grandma died, we had a heckuva time getting back in here. The Border Patrol guy was, of all things, ASIAN (as in, didn't even speak much English . . . for some reason . . . ) and we were a great conundrum for this guy. My mom is a Canadian citizen, came down here like 40 years ago but kept her citizenship, right? I'm an American citizen, and we both have New Mexico driver's licenses . . . WHOO-EE this guy had the hardest time figuring out how in the heck

1) she was Canadian,
2) I was American,
3) she was my MOTHER,
4) we had different last names, and
5) we both lived in Mexico.

We dang near missed our flight in Detroit, he held us up so long. Just TRY explaining that New Mexico is IN the USA . . . grrrr . . . (we get that all the time). I heard a story of a NM woman who ended up in the ER somewhere in New York recently, and they wouldn't take her insurance because it was "foreign". New Mexico Magazine has a whole page full of these things every month lol.

Do let us know how the radon thingie works, okay? Sorry I've been so remiss in my postings . . . things have been busy as heck, what with the beurocratic crap I've been going through to get my last name changed, and get us a joint bank account, and we're STILL working on getting a house . . . (If I weren't so dang old-fashioned, I'd almost recommend that you and Glen never get married . . . it's almost not worth the hassle! I spent 2 days in the DMV trying to get a new driver's license . . . the gal honestly acted like she'd NEVER changed a woman's last name before . . . grrr)

*hugses*
can't wait till you're my neighbor!!!

So I'll call yesterday Day 0. Today was my first day in the mine, so it's officially Day 1.

Started off with fantastic brekkie at Boulder Hot Springs (they cater to your needs), followed by a dip in the outdoor mineral pool where Glen and I got to meet Brad! I got to meet another ASKicker!!! What a great guy! Glen and I hope to meet up with him again (and hopefully the rest of his family too) whether this mine thing works out or not. We all had a great chat by the pool, in some fantastic weather. I'm already sporting tan lines.

Glen and I spent an hour underground in the mine, which is a VERY neat place. Very clean and tidy, and you could spend days in there just reading the graffiti on the walls - everyone signs where they're from and when. We found one guy who's been coming for 25 years. I'll take a pic of his signature and post it later. Before dinner, we went for another swim in the pool, and checked out the his/hers indoor plunge pools and steam rooms. Not exactly your urban spa; it's kind of rustic, but it was great nonetheless. The country and scenery here is beautiful.

Presently, we're upstairs in the radon room, where air from the mines below is piped up. We're hoping to put in another couple of hours and call it a day.

Within 15 mins of being in the mine, we could feel very slight burning throats and eyes. Nothin crazy though. Glen seems to be getting a runny nose - not sure what that's all about, but I'm not experiencing that at all.

Anyway. That's what's going on at the mine. I'll post more later, with pics.

Yep, after hearing Brad's story about trying to get across the same border into Canada, it makes our border crossing look like a cakewalk. lol Seems that it goes both ways....

haha that's funny.

Glen and I don't have the same address or last name, so we got grilled on our "relationship status" at the border too. Apparently "dating" didn't cut it because we seemed closer than that (or something? apparently they didn't like that answer anyways), and we're not married, so I grabbed Glen and loudly announced, "We're LOVERS" and that seemed to do the trick!

Hugs to you and lentil...great middle name btw....

Day 2

Logged 5 hours today, although I was strongly warned by Pat, the mine owner, not to do that many. Maybe I'll pay for it later? Everyone keeps telling me to work up my hours slowly, that I'll suffer the consequences if I don't...hmm...

Glen and I wandered around in the mine for 2 hours this morning, before I had to say toodles to him until Thursday. Went for a steam bath and soak in the mineral pool at the springs, then headed back to the mine for 3 more hours of underground time. Just had another quick dip in the pool, and will do some writing and then call it a night!

Feeling the same as usual, and still on all my meds. Weather here is gorgeous again, which I hear is well deserved, since they had snow last week (same system as Calgary, I would imagine!).

Posted pics under "Montana" here

Yes - we're at Boulder Hot Springs B&B. They individually cater breakfast at whatever time during the AM you want. Food is local and organic, and fantastic, I might add.
The place looks like the setting of "The Shining" though; a little bit spooky and could use some renos. But being right at the hotsprings/plunge pools/steam rooms is worth it, I think (no fee for B&B guests). It's old and rustic, and has lots of character. Wireless internet doesn't work worth a darn from our room though!
