First of all, I want to say I made it through the fires, but many people I know did not fare as well. It has been horrible here. The firefighters have been amazing at saving our houses and lives. Second, Is that really Zzyzx posting? Teresa, I miss you terribly my dear! Where is your blender? So 5 or 6 weeks ago I came down with shingles. On my forehead, above my left eye and on my left cheek. The doctor I work for caught it within 36 hrs and got me on the appropriate meds but talk about pain and suffering! I'm still on the neurontin for the nerve pain and know this takes some time to get better. I'm just amazed I got it. Usually 50% of people who get shingles are over the age of 60, or have compromised immune systems, or other factors. I am only 39. I was really stressed out the week before the rash broke out. My daughter moved to San Diego, which is 4 hrs. away from me. I'm pretty much chalking it up to stress because I don't think my immune system is that compromised....or is it? How compromised are our immune systems with AS? Have you ever had shingles? How long did it take for the nerve pain to go away? I wonder if I was more susceptible because I have AS? Just wondering...... Cristina

Hi Cristina
So glad that you faired well with the fires. I have been watching it on t.v. It's unbelievable the amount of damage. I've sent alot of prayers that way.
How unfortunate that you have come down with shingles. They are awful. I personally have never had them, but my mother has. They were also brought on by stress and they take a long time to get over as I understand. Could be up to a year or more and you could easily come down with them again. That's all I know about the condition really. So sorry you have to go through it. I know how painful they are.
Get well soon Marne

I myself havent had shingles but my dad did. He got it in mid January or so and it took several weeks for the worst part of it to go away and he still has the itchies even now. But he is 62 so maybe you being younger it wont stay around as long...Hopefully.

Christina,
I am so glad that you are safe from the fires, yes it is horrible to have to watch people lose thier homes and what a wonderful & courageous job all the firefighters and medical people are doing.
I personally have never had the shingles but my Dad did a couple of years ago and he was in alot of pain. I felt so bad for him because I felt like there was nothing I could do. His started like in the back of his head and came up around to his forhead and his eye. I just know he was in alot of pain.
Im so glad that the Dr. helped you and I hope you will start feeling better very soon.
Take Care,
Lisa

Hello Sweetykins.
I have been thinking about, you with all of these fires. I am happy that you are safe...very scary stuff indeed.
Shingles...I have never had them, but a girlfriend of mine had them in her mid 20's. Her immune system is just fine...so, dont hold too much to that.
Miss you!

Hi Cristina.
Sorry to hear that you have shingles. I have never had them but it is my understanding that anyone who has had chicken pox can come down with shingles. Herpes Zoster. Everyone that I've known to get it has been under a tremendous amount of stress.
Hopefully things will let up for you.
Take care. Cara

Christina, I had shingles once...on my back, when I was pregnant with my first. She is now 15. I can't remember how long it lasted though. I know at the time I was very underweight (95 lbs) so that and being pregnant was hard on my body....I am assuming that is what caused it to rear it's ugly head. I hope you get some relief soon...I know how painful it is.
