If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

How many of us were heavy drinkers before onset - Anyone? I had symptoms of AS before a very bad respritory type infection, but they were very mild as I remember. After the flu - my symptoms quickly became severe. Wikipedia link on Klebsiella and pneumonia The link states alcholics and people with a poor diet are more likely to get infected with Klebsiella

I was not a heavy drinker before onset but I have had many, many upper respiratory infections, "walking pneumonia", etc., in my childhood and teens, WAAAAY before I ever took a drink of alcohol. For the last few years, I can count on having bronchitis or pneumonia at least once during the winter months.
John (Drayonslayer) what do you know about this subject? You know so much about Klebsiella. What are your thoughts? I am truly curious. My family has lots of upper respiratory problems, with "walking pneumonia" being one of them. In December last, I broke a rib falling. In Feb, I reinjured the break coughing from "walking pneumonia". I would sincerely like to hear your thoughts.
Interesting question, Layer3guy!! Thanks! Holly

I don't weigh very much so I'm not what you would call a heavy drinker...however, I do have a have a rum and pepsi in my hand from lunch to lights out. Oops, poor wording....I meant until I go to bed. It relaxes me and that in turn reduces the muscle guarding which is my main complaint. (I used to use marijuana, which is the #1 muscle relaxer IMHO. But it had to go when I quit smoking cigarettes) The cost is about the same as the poison NSAIDs and is probably just as dangerous but I've been doing this for about 28 years and have had no noticeable ill effects so I will probably go on until the lights stay out.

The only time I ever drank anything was when the rheumy had me drinking 3 oz. red wine after work and again at bed time to bring my iron level up and it worked in 6 weeks and I haven't drank since. He told me to consider it a written prescription and just do it and I did. It did work. Possi

I thought you just used a very large glass for your rum and pepsi.
I used to drink rum and coke from about 5:30am until I went to bed too but I have not had 1 drink in about 4 years now. I think the last drink I had was here at our KA party in Ottawa and I think I only had a couple then because of my meds. I sure do miss the good old days now that I think about it.

I'm not sure I was a heavy drinker. I was more of a binge drinker in my late teens and early twenties. Usually three nights a week where the weekend started on Thursday nights. My AS symptoms never surfaced until after my UC and subsequent colectomy and J-Pouch.
Kind Regards, Jay

I didn't start drinking really till I moved 3 hours away from home during University. I would probably say I was a party girl, but I have since tamed my ways. My mom would say the same thing. I would classify this as more binge drinking, I was afterall in school so I had work to do as well.
Now, I wouldn't say I am a heavy drinker, but I probably have a glass of wine most nights.
And to be perfectly honest, in the flare that has been going on since June. The only time I got any relief was after a had a couple glasses of something to relax me & take the edge off. Judge me if you want, but I speak my truth.
Cheers!
Amy:)
