If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi! I still havent been dxed yet but to new ones. I am hlab27+, get iritis, both knees replaced, ribcage fused, sjogrens syndrome, arthritis all over, 2 neck surguries, on and on. But doctors say well all these indecators but its a mans disease. So could I take all you gals with to doc with me.lol My 30 year old daughter has already had neck surgery 2 years ago and next month has to have lower back surery. Her doc is going to do blood work to see if she is hlab27 positive and Rhematoid arthritis. I feel so guilty she is inheriting all this from me but not much I can do. The scary part is the grandkids of mine some are showing signs of this monster. But hopefully there will be a cure some day,. Well as usual I am rambling on. Dont know when to quit. Take care Connie

Connie, I can't freakin' believe that with that set of symptoms, you still haven't been diagnosed. And now your daughter too!! Are these docs blind or just stupid??? Refer them to Dr. Mohammed Kham and the Case University. He'll tell them what's what about women and AS! Grrrrrrr.
Many hugs (and where the heck've you been anyway - haven't seen you in ages),

Hey there,
You may want to think about Vitamin D supplements for the young ones. A recent study (of 20k+ people) showed that higher than the RDA of Vitamin D significantly reduced the chances of getting Rheumatoid Arthritis and Cancer later in life.
Once, you've got it, it's yours forever (or so it would seem), but there may be a chance of staving it off or at least lessening the severity.

Maybe you should start a post of "Who is female and diagnosed with AS" so you can take the list to your doctor? Don't feel guilty about your children's illnesses. You can't know for sure when you have children, that they'll inherit any of your illnesses. Stop beating yourself up over it. It just happens, and you'll deal with it the same way you've dealt with your own illness. At least you'll have the knowledge necessary to help them get through the disease better than we have.

Connie, you need to change docs. I have a surgeon that always said AS was a man's desease, but he learned quickly with all the post op problems with my knee replacements that it is not just a man's desease. My Rheumy and GP are the ones that picked AS out right away. If you have a Rheumy that says that, he needs to go. All good docs know AS is not gender oriented. I'm so sorry to hear your daughter is going through this. A parents worst fear. I have to children in their early 20's and both have shown signs but refuse to take the time to go through the whole diagnostic tests. Cindy

you could sooner teach a pig to fly than change this doctor's mind... he's got a dog complex and was thoroughly educated in the nineteenth century, men were men , women insignificant. get a younger one...such a shame these guys are still out there. buy him a carton of cigarettes as a farewell gift...and a lighter. as a general principle one should not reward stooooopidity. i do think women are underdiagnosed, perhaps, because of docility...and the general unpleasantness of telling a fool to his face tat he's a fool; have you not ever talked back ? good luck wih a new doctor. best aB

I have felt so guilty about my children. One of them has so many problems. When I expressed my guilt, she said, "Mom don't you think I had rather be here and deal with this and not be here at all?" "Thank you for having me and for teaching me how to live with chronic illness by your example through the years." Talk about a precious daughter. Your children will feel the same way. I worry about 2 of my grands whose father also has AS so they have it on both sides. The 15 year old is a tiny little thing and hse has a lot of back pain. She had MRI's last year and they said she had a hairline fracture in the spine. it still hurts her a lot so I am very concerned about what lies ahead for her. It doesn't slow her down though. She is very active with scuba diving, LaCrosse, horses, track, competitive swimming. Her dad does Triatlons so they are an active family. He does this with AS and says it keeps him going. They have their kids staying very active and I think it is helping them all hold it at bay. I am a strong believer in exercise with water being the very best. Blessings. Possi
