I agree if you are on those kinds of meds please do not push through anything... thats the problem with giving advise people are in all different stages of this horrible disease..

Hi,
i think you learn over the years what's enough and what's too much, early on the disease you just get sore and stiff, later it can do a hell of alot more than just sore and stiff, so you learn how much you should do and sometimes the consequences are worth it.
NSAIDs are a helper out of this situation, but you can get into a cycle of relying on those and then doing some real joint/ligamentdamage, as you only really mask the pain and stiffness and that is actually a warning that things are n't right.
So I would n;t be taking an nsaid to keep heavy exercise up, but maybe occasionally to keep moving after a heavy bout of exercise.
all of us have different degrees of disease and our own version of the disease varies so you just learn about your own condition. If you are hitting alot of problems then it is a sign you are overdoing it, and sometime you need to cut back and change to low impact exercise for a while then when things settle work up the heavier exercise.
AS is about enthesitis and joints swelling etc (normal arhtritis) is seen when the enthesitis has been chronic, so managing the disease is about having a bit of respect for the muscle/ligament/tendon insertion points onto the bone. Heavy loading/exertion on the muscles will irriate enthesitis....

Hi I cant even do cycling anymore. Last time i got on a bike i only did a couple mins on it and had to stop, i was in a lot of pain for days. I push my self thru pain but when i over do it, it sure catches up with me. I have been told to take muscle relaxants and the normal diclofenac and painkillers before exercise and to continue with it for a couple of days after. This eases it a bit for me. I think its trial and error finding something that works. Good luck heather
