So I saw the ortho guy today. I already knew what was wrong because of my past experience, but it was wierd a little bit because I had to wait a week to see a doctor. I'm glad I waited. I could tell when I first walked into the office that this place was something beyond your normal doctor's office. They had their own xray room, rehab techs, and the doctor. It was xrays>wait for the doc>meet the doc (who had the bluest eyes in the world sigh aren't those young doctors always fun to get?)...I don't know if he was shocked by me, because I know everything about this or what. I wish a doctor would post and say what it's like to meet someone having a double injury who knows all about what to do...do you think they think we are pushy???

This time, I'm going to focus on the mind aspect of healing. I think I'm kinda hopin that it might make it easier? I can do relax, meditate, pray and heal my mind AND body so that it is strong. I flew in an airplane cross country 5 days after the lateral release surgery the last time. The pain I have now, is nothing compared to that plane ride. The changes in pressure, I have faint memories of that trip for a reason . The fentynl patch is probably helping me a lot right now too.;)

I'm stoked that I got 9 years free from knee issues though. They did sometimes crunch when I would go up and down stairs, but after the healing of the left one in 99, I was in heaven. Maybe I shouldn't have played catcher for 9 years, or shouldn't have had A.S. OOH, that was one cool thing, They knew what A.S was!!!! I did NOT have to explain it to a doctor. That was a first in a long long time.

I'm glad I've gone through the entire experience 9 years ago because now I know what to expect. I know what kind of PT I'm going to have, and I know what choice I might have to make in the next 6 months. Right now, It's all about focusing on the healing and resting as much as I can. Im taking tomorrow off from work and I'm going to ice the muther until I can't feel a danged thing and prop it up on a pillow. I wish I had a laptop but I guess it'll just be me, the ice bag and the DVR. I am very lucky in my job. too I'm not sure HOW to get it, but my job has medical pay. 80% of what you make while you are dealing with a health issue. I think it's so you don't go broke trying to get better. It's the best job in the world and I even cried on the phone with my boss while explaining how much I love the job and I'm so sorry that I have to ask for a day off again after missing last week because of the knee. I went so long working without missing any days that it's really hard to pull myself away for once. I really care about my other boss and so being at home and not at work,(im an admin assist) I really don't like to miss work.

Try to find the silver linings...ya have too...

Thanks for letting me whine about this guys.

*hugs and m and m's*

Marnie, I'm glad to see you're using mind power on this. It's so important to be able to relax and heal the mind.

If you don't mind, I would also suggest that you visualize your knee doing what it's supposed to. Visualize the blood flowing freely through healthy muscles, tendons and ligaments. Visualize your patella tracking properly. Do this when you've just finished whatever relaxation technique you use, or while you're meditating, once you've reached the peak. Honestly, it can really help.

Good luck with it Marnie. Gotta love doctors with great eyes, eh.

Hugs,

Kat

Kat!

These knee injuries combined with the remodeling of our bathroom combined with the 'almost' breakin of the house has made for an interesting few days. The good news is that my knee is doing really really well. I have been very careful with it and I've been doing all of the exercises I learned from the last round of physical therepy, trying to strengthen my thigh muscles and when I go back to work at the end of next week I should be able to hand 3 days a week. I have the ability to be out of work for 12 weeks if I need it!!! THank you Clinton!! Family and Medical leave Act of 1993!!! You american A'Sers should check it out!!

I get to be at home, and rest and watch over the home as the bathroom is transformed. It's fantastic. I'm also getting to know my neighborhood again. I hadn't hung out with any of my neighbors since the job because I've been so busy healing. Thankfully they all seem to understand when I come limping up with a huge black brace and either a cane or a couple of crutches. Last time this happened I went on phish tour for a year. I guess in my head I was ignoring the fact that my kneecap had popped out of the track and I'd had to have surgery. I just did it, healed, dealt with the pain through the music and kept goin. Fortunately for me, the member of phish that I connect with the best is having a show at the festival I'm attending. It's going to be the first festival since I went to the last phish show in Vermont in 2004. It's taken me 3 years to heal myself again but this time, I'm not letting my knee stop me from being in the front row of this show with my horns on. It's been way too long and it's looking like a lot of my friends are going to be there. They have great handicamped camping facilities at these festivals because there are more then a few disabled fans around the country. The producers of the festivals are so kind in adjusting the ENTIRE festival for you if you can't get to the stage in your wheelchair.

I have never seen anyone move faster then this guy I met who produced the phish festival IT. I'll tell that story some other time, but that is the kind of scene that I am lucky to be involved with and it's giving me the strength in my mind to get past this faster and better then I did with the surgery.

Oy I just typed a lot. I think it's you Kat, you inspire me with your dancing . I danced for 5 years and miss it oh so dreadfully. I was going to take a belly dancing class when my knee went so it's always a possiblity.

As usual, thanks for listening and I wish you all the best on your journey with A.S.

*gentle hugs and trail mix with m and ms*

Hey Marnie,
Did you get my message on Kneeguru?
Are you still in PT? See if you can get a PT to show you how to "tape" your patella. It's very easy and only takes a coupl little pieces of tape, you would be shocked to see how those 2 tiny pieces of tape can make a huge difference and you wouldn't need the brace. Give it a try it may work for you. I used it for years on my good, bad knee before having surgery.
