If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Oh wow, really? I'm so glad you typed this. I had been wondering if it was my imagination or related to a disease. Since I have Graves disease then this would be something for me to feel for.
Thanks for hte information!
*hugs*

Hi all. I had to go to emergency the other night with those thumps/constrictions and, after several years of not knowing, the doctor told me it was GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). What a relief finally knowing. He did say that there has always been a problem separating heart symptoms with gerd but the tests they did pretty well finalised it. So...the diet has to be changed.
Question - We do have some with gerd here, what kind of foods do you get by with?? The Net does have some conflicting data I've found.
Thanks,
Timo

Hi Tim
I have had GERDs for many years. Many foods bother me. I pretty much stay away from any foods with sulfites, sulfates, follow a No/Low starch, celiac, high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetec, lactose, sugar, allergy free diet.
When you look at the big picture, there is not too much I can eat. Depending on the day and choice of pain, I desire for the day, it becoming very hard to juggle these diets.
With GERDs I stay away from spicy foods, pork, anything with a natural sulfa, sulfite, and sulfate. Garlic is very bad for my GERDs. I am crippled even by the hint of garlic. I find taking Losec or now Paried, that I must take it at bed time. Otherwise my Severe sleep apnea jumps into the severe range, and a host of other health issues are also worsened.
Take Care
Gerri

Hi Timo,
I've had GERD and have been on heavy duty meds for at least 15 years. Right now I take 40 mg. of Protonix twice daily and still have to resort to Gaviscon for immediate relief of heartburn. What you eat can be a problem, but also how you eat it. Smaller meals, never eat til you feel full. Try not to eat near bedtime, don't lean over after eating, put your head of your bed on 2-3 inch blocks(this keeps contents of stomach coming up into your throat). Smoking, alcohol, caffeine and stress are bad for GERD. Usually if I am on prednisone or antibiotics they flare it up also. If it starts to spasm and you feel that knife in the chest feeling, drink lukewarm water very slowly. That helps sometimes.
As far as which foods to avoid, that may be a little different for each person. Of course spicy foods. Pizza, lasagna, spaghetti, bananas, tea(even though I buy decaf) anything with grease and tomato products will aggressively irritate it. Other foods irritate it also, but these will make me miserable.
Hope this is helpful. By the way, do you have a hiatal hernia also? I have that also, so I don't know how much of this to attribute to that.
Take care, Wanda

Hi Tim,
I was diagnosed with GERD after I nearly choked (was home alone on that occasion too). I have not made any real changes to my diet. I take Nexium 40 and this keeps the condition under control.
Since I tend to vomit if I eat tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as egg, mayonnaise and passionfruit, these are automatically off my list of edible foods. I suspect that things such as Kransky and hot dogs or frankfurt should not be eaten as well.
