Is there a possible link?

I'm suffering from a bit of eczema on my lower arm & wrist area, this is the 2nd time in around two years I've suffered from eczema. Any advice on creams or treatments?

I'm also taking an Anti TNF (Remicade), possible link?

Thanks.

My neice has eczema and uses Gold Bond Ultimate Healing lotion. I think she has some medicated stuff too, but the gold bond really helps.

I am asking my GP to send me to a dermy, I am having skin problems since starting remicade as well, and some online synopses I have read suggest up to 25% of people on remicade have been reporting skin problems...

Remicade and Skin Problems: The Dutch Study

Researchers report that TNF-blocking drugs—Remicade, Humira, and Enbrel—pose significant and clinically important dermatological problems for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Of the nearly 300 patients involved in this study, 25 percent sought medical help from a dermatologist regarding Remicade and skin problems during the first two years of treatment. By comparison, only 13 percent of those taking a placebo pill sought attention for skin problems during that time. This shows that Remicade and related drugs can double the risk of skin problems .

The most common Remicade skin problems

SKIN INFECTIONS were the most common dermatological complaint experienced by patients taking Remicade and related drugs during the Dutch study.
ECZEMA was the second most common skin condition caused by Remicade in the study.
DRUG-INDUCED SKIN ERUPTIONS were also common among those taking these rheumatoid arthritis drugs.

It's certainly not enuff in my case to put me off the drug, but I do want to cover all bases and take care of my skin as well as I possibly can

HI

I was told before I started HUMIRA that I have a (think they said antibody or something like that) that may cause a rash when I start the antiTNF .
I have had a slight redening of a small patch of skin on my face, and when Iget a bath I have started to get a red rash all over my back and arms. is this the same kind of thing you get??

all the best tone..............

I already had eczema before starting Remicade, but I haven't noticed a change for the worse with it. Actually, going off wheat cleared my eczema up amazingly. My arms have never been as clear as they are now and I always know when I'm cheating by eating too much wheat because the eczema starts getting worse.

I do have a few skin eruptions that I've never had before (mainly on my shoulders by my neck), but I'm not overly concerned. I treat them with Tea Tree Oil and they clear up after a bit.

Hope the eczema isn't the only result you get from the Remicade. That would suck in such a big way.

Many hugs,

Kat

Fishy,
Thanks for the reply. It's the second time I've suffered from this skin prob, last time I stopped taking Remicade & it cleared up. Have now been on Remicade for over 2 years now & skin prob has started up again in a different place. I'm going to my GP & shall ask for some cream, I'll just have to see how it goes.

I've never had any skin probs prior to Remicade.

Interesting article.

Yorkshiretone,
Sorry to hear about your skin prob. Mine is on my lower arm, wrist area, bumpy & red with sore outside edges. Just a bit irritating. I'll go to my GP & see how it goes, don't really want to stop Remicade, unless I really have too.

I live in Guisborough, so can't be too far off your neck of the woods? I live on the edge of the in North Yorkshire moors. Small world.
