It made me sad.

I loved his show and his work. He did a lot for wildlife and he will be missed. He had his own unique way to show people the world through his eyes. He was often critisized for his unconventional approach of his passion, wildlife. But now he will be missed, and i hope the people see now what he tried to make you see.

Rest in peace Steve, thank you.

Very sad news indeed.
So much death around these days but this is one that has really struck an extra sad chord. It has been on my mind all day.
He certainly gave a lot to this world and we will all miss him.

Thanks for posting Sally.

I was flying back from vacation Monday and story was on CNN news at airport and everyone was making comments of their disbelief.

My heart goes out to their family.

I couldn't believe it at first, when it came on the news last night. Thought nothing would ever bring him down - especially not something like a sting ray. His unorthodox and whacky antics with animals will be missed. As will his contribution to knowledge of the animal world.

Hugs,

Kat

Hi all,

It is sad to hear that one of the worlds most dedicated animal activists Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter passed away off byron bay whilst filming a documentary. He was struck by the barb of a stingray which pierced his left side of the chest killing him.
He is very much loved Home here in Asutralia and I am in disbelief at the sad news of the courageous mans passing. He did for animals what Elvis I feel has done for music.
All my prayers are now with his wife and children,
May the light hold his soul and the love care for his family

i'm so sorry to all his loved ones
with tears in my eyes
Sal

Hey Sal,

it was not off Byron Bay. That is too far south. The accident occurred off the Great Barrier Reef out of Port Douglas. It was at a reef known as Batt Island.

Personally, I did not like Steve Irwin, but that is because I do not think that he epitomises the Aussie style. Most of us do not go around saying "Crikey". However, that does not mean that I am not impressed with the dedication that he had to his family. He was the epitome of a true and loving family man.

The accident was shocking because he had absolutely no chance of survival, since the fin went right through his heart. The toxin that was released would have been immediately deadly.

I would not call Steve Irwin an animal activist. On the other hand, he had a love of animals and the environment that is very rare. That love was his life's work.

My sympathy goes to Terri and the children who have been deprived of husband and father.

You must think the rest of the world is dumb that we think all Aussies say "Crikey" everyday. He made that his own, and i loved it. Now you can look out for the next person who is gonna "embarres" Australia.

I was very sad....
Although I had expected him to go in an animal encounter, he just seemed superhuman, like nothing could stop him...
having worked at zoos we all used to debate whether he helped or hurt the cause of zoo animals and wildlife conservation, but I loved his shows, he made great tv that got kids and adults interested and inspired, and he always wove a conservation message into his shows...
Jay Leno had a tribute on tonight....at one point Steve was holding a giant mamba snake, in his trademark short pants, and announced that it was within striking distance...he took ultimate risks in life to promote what he believed, we should all hope to be as brave...
PEACE, Croc Hunter...
