Ihope you don't mind me having a little moan. Its 12.45am I can't sleep. I am in so much pain. I just can't seem to get out of this depression I have had for a while. Everything seems so bad. I don't feel I am doing anything with my life. I feel like ****. I know there are people worse off than me but..... I dont normally do this feeling sorry for myself I am one who normally just gets on with it and am quite happy I take it all in my stride. But not this time. I am sorry for sounding so selfish but I need to get it off my chest. People around me just dont understand they try but they are not in the pain I am in all the bloody time everyday day in day out.
Sorry!

I know how you feel. I hate those nights where all I can do is pace around while it seems the rest of the world is fast asleep. Hope you feel better soon.

You are not being selfish, you are just going thru what so many others of us are going thru...

I usually have to take steroids and hydro/oxycodone every morning before I get up, just so I can get up.

Have you talked to your Dr about your pain to see what he/she can do.

Try to keep your chin up,

Lisa

Hello Sharon,

Sorry to hear you are feeling blue... comes with the territory for many of us with AS. Hopefully things turn around and you feel better soon. It is difficult for those that do not live with a chronic ailment to appreciate what it is like to live with one.

Best to you,

Tim

Fluffy,

We're right there with you. I've had to soak in hot bath every night (save a few here and there) just to be able to fall asleep. If you are not a normal "bath taker", give it a try. It won't get rid of the pain, but it will soothe your aches just enough to allow for a good night sleep. Also, if you can beg, borrow or steal to get one, get a Tempurpedic mattress. When I was first diagnosed I couldn't sleep more than a few hours at a time. I was lucky enough to be working at Brookstone's part-time and got a tremendous discount on a mattress. While I still have aches and pains and wake up extremely stiff and sore, I can sleep. I know it's cliche, but hang in there; just take it day by day, minute by minute. As for me, it's 10:54 in the city of champions (Pittsburgh, PA) and my hot bath is waiting for me.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time right now. You've come to the right place, I think everyone here can understand how you feel. Maybe you are feeling sorry for yourself, but so what? I'm sure we've all done that from time to time. It would be very difficult to go through what you're going through without ever feeling sorry for yourself.

Do you do anything for your depression? If not, please consider talking to your doctor about it. I know from my own experience that things look darker and you feel your pain more when you're depressed. If you take an antidepressant or do something to get you out of the depression, you'll feel better able to handle the pain.

I also know that lack of sleep makes everything worse. Do whatever is necessary to be able to get some sleep.

Be kind to yourself, Sharon! (((((HUG))))
