If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi all ive have had bouts with swollen and red itchy toes, very sore they also throb and feel hot.I have always blamed it on the cold or my shoes being an impropper fit while being on my feet all day.Sometimes my ears also get sore and feel hot and turn red as if frosbit.Im work outside and have always thought it was the cold. Could this be my AS talking. LOL NO PUN INTENDED. Brian

Hey, Brian:
Yes, I have sausage digits due to AS, and I once caught my toes acting up--very sore from inflammation. They look a bit like the hands of some severe RA people I have seen.
Regards, John

Brian,
I have problems with my feet and toes swelling. I think it was these problems, plus the state of my back that helped me to get my dx of AS.
I have also experienced a pain in the ear, and there is a thread about this same point on the ears and how it sometimes indicates the start of a new flare.
For the record, I have a toe that wants to ride on top of its neighbour. The little toes are constantly getting corns even though I do not purchase shoes that I believe to be too tight. I suffer from some fluid retention.

Brother John, Did you catch those toes, red handed? and once they were caught, did you give them a stern lecture! or maybe a time out. Sorry John, as much has you have done for me, you just tickeled my funny bone this morning! I love you man! Br'er Lon

How funny, I came on here today to ask about my big toe. It just swelled up out of the blue this weekend, and I couldn't hardly stand (on) it. Had to walk on the side of my foot for three days. Went to the rheumy and he assured me that it is indeed B27/AS related. He gave me some NSAIDs and said to try that out. It was only the one toe though, and it had actually started as arch pain. For what it's worth, I'm still going through the diagnosis hurdles. MRI is scheduled for a couple weeks, after having a year of back pain, iritis, B27+, and now toe issues. My Primary Care physician did have the balls to try and tell me it was the cold weather that makes my back ache. HUMMM...did he not read that I've been in aches since April last year? Sometimes these docs are just priceless.

Swollen toes were my first known symptom to AS... started 4.5 years ago. I was diagnosed with AS based on toe pain alone. That is still my worst symptom. I have been wearing only open-toed shoes for 4 years because of it. They sometimes swell like sausages & other times have red itchy bumps. Cold makes them worse... feels like I have frostbite. (To clarify, when I say cold I mean like 60 degrees... I live in San Diego, LOL). Sometimes it's one toe, sometimes more than one... it switches toes too. BUT there is hope... I've been on Enbrel for 3 weeks & I actually wore regular shoes for the first time yesterday!

Hiya,
Methetrexate really helps my pinkies feet wrists etc they get sore but never really swollen or spurs growing.....like before
Watch your feet as if they get bad it can be pretty horrid and make life a real drag on top of the axial stuff.
When it's lighter involvement things like felden or nsaid gel can help for a week or so, Also and my least favourite immerse feet in an ice bucket 10-15 minutes and massage around the joint and soft tissue......repeat for 3-4 days it can help alot.
Hope they get better soon
