If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has been down to one predisone a week and if it has helped at all. I was on one a day for weight gain ( I went from 81lbs to 120lbs)and I found it helped the pain. I have now been off them for just over a month and the pain is back. I haven't been to the Doc's yet thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks Terry

Hi Terry - I was on 5mg forever - several years. I couldn't get off - every time I tried, I would go into a flare. I tried tapering off by doing every other day but that didn't even work. So yes, it did help control pain. I wanted off so badly I just went cold turkey and flared. Started on remicade/methotrexate and am doing so much better now. With prednisone, I had all the side effects - moon face , hump on my upper spine , and it really only controlled the pain in higher doses. It is really one nasty drug but it does the trick in calming inflammation. Good luck - glad it worked for you in gaining weight , sorry your pain is increasing. Mickey

Hiya,
preddy is a powerful drug, I'd not be self administrering it or switching doses without professional guidance, some of us are on it long term for the inflammation (I have Inflam bowel Disease as well, it sorts both out) but ideally it is a short term use drug either a short sharp dose ove5 days or tapered down eg decreased dose s over a few weeks.
Weight gain, try 250 gm blocks of chocolate.....hehehehehehe! I got down to 74Kg last year back upto 84 now choccies...yummm!
Ih and preddy you are suposed to be monitored by ythe Doc for side effects, every 2-4 weeks....

Hi Terry Another beautiful day in Vancouver. Well I'm coming off of prednisone now taking 1 mg every 2 days and things are going ok. I started taking preddy because I got my lungs became inflamed with a lung disease (yes I know smoking is bad). I've been taking it for a year and a half. I porked up 25 lbs. I have to go in for a blood test to see if I can come off it, which shouldn't be a problem since I'm at a low dose. But I liked taking it felt good all round. I got a little pissy at times when the doses started getting lower. But you should talk to your doc before stopping anything. See ya Chris

Thanks Chris, It is a beautiful day in Vancouver!!! I got a sunburn yesterday. I'm going to talk to the doc as there is not much else I can take except for narcs. as I have allergies to everything. So do you live in Vancouver?

Hiya Terry, I was on pred for years - 5 or 10 mg every second day did the trick for me. I found that one dose would last about 3 days for me, and after that, I'd flare, so alternate day dosing seemed to work pretty well. Just a weird observation - high dose pred made my face swell up, but low dose made me LOSE weight. But that's because I'm hypoglycemic, and pred kept my blood sugars up in the normal range, so I didn't have to eat every 2 hours! Now, I'm off it and I really have to work so as to not gain weight. Take care, Megan

Hi all, Well went back to the docs and he wants me to try predisone 1mg a day. I'm hoping it will curb the pain and I won't gain anymore weight.
