Quote:I really hope that's not rest to the point of lying down and staying still. We ASers need to move or we get stuck where we lay/sit. I'm speaking figuratively, but taken to the extreem that statement really could be quite true.
Morton revealed that if the new injection failed, the next stage was rest and rehabilitation before an injection in another area of the back after a statutory period of time.

Cortisone never did a thing for me. I hope Athers has more luck.

If you have AS, you are all in great company.
Have a look at the list of celebrities below.
"Because diseases don't exist unless they afflict somebody famous."
 AS Celebrity List

 Rico Brogna, baseball player
 Michael Clark, cricket player
 Lee Hurst, broadcaster
 Mick Mars, Mötley Crüe guitarist
 Valli Moosa, South African politican
 Michael Slater, cricket player
 Chris Small, snooker player
 Ed Sullivan, television personality
 Ian Woosnam, golfer
Paul Eddington, television personality (who portrays the Jerry Leadbetter & Jim Hacker characters)
 Historical Figures
 **************************

Ramesses II the Great - ancient Egypt's most illustrious pharaohs (1298-1232 BC)
 Merneptah (Ramesses II's son)

Egyptian mummies have been found with ankylosing changes to their skeleton.
A disease much like AS has been found naturally in prehistoric crocodiles, monkeys and in horses.

Ed Sullivan! Well, now that I envision his show, yes I can see it. At least there's someone famous that I've actually heard of pre-AS days.
 Hugs,

Hiya,
the old "does anyone understand AS" question, rest vs motion.......enough to keep th stiffness down not enough to irriate the joint, injectioned area....

hi good point spent so long getting exercise drumd into me thats the first thing I think all the time how much dose it help an inflamed joint or damage it.
is it better to rest the joint and get the inflamation down by other means then exercise it , I myself always try to exercise and stretch it but end up resting it untill the pain settles down could I be agrevating the problem?

Something We grow up with, ? How much you get to know!!!
eg: had a fight with William's rheummy last week about what to do next, he wants William back into everything asap, but Will says his knees get too sore. Will is n;t easily put off.....he took my advice and went beach running said he can;t remeber when he felt so good, just a bit tight in the calves whereas his SpA/Ozgood Slattyers type would have crippled him for a few weeks on a normal surface.

Have to say I'm not keen now to do too much after a steroid shot, best to take it slow and rest and gentle stretching movement....give it a chance....bad enough if you have flu etc

Hi DaveYour post caught my attention, when you mentioned that your son had a "osgood schlattery" type disease. My son started with this when he was about 10yrs old. He was always playing football and by this time played for the under 12 league. He had intensive therapy for it for months. Although he continued playing football, he always had knee problems and finally had to stop playing when he was 15.
I do wonder whether this is anything to do with AS as he does have occasional joint and lower back problems. I haven't said anything to him about this, but just continue to watch him. His son is 5yrs old and also has had occasional knee problems. I worry sometimes about passing this to my children and also understand what will be will be. Thanks for listening. Take care.
 Love
 Sue
