Hello everyone...I just wanted to share with you the effects that stress has on me and my a.s. .. Well to start I have a very stressfull life lateley esp with my as spreading and it getting harder and harder for me to work with my massive hip pains when on my feet .And it doesnt help that I currently hate my job (the food biz)Ok I just took a vacation back to my home in ca for 2 weeks to visit friends and family. The only worries I had those 2 weeks was where I was going to surf that day and how much sun I wanted to get!! It was amazing after 2 days of sun some exercise and no stress from work and other sources my pain levels droped amazingly my shoulders stoped hurting my neck loosened up and my back stoped hurting. As I have said before surfing is the best med of all being in such a happy state.,But I firmly believe that getting sun (that I lack here in the winter in nj )The exercise of surfing moving all my joints and mostly the stress relief has done wonders!!Now im back in freezing nj, back to the grind guess what most of my pains came back and im hurting again .My stress all came back returning to my horrible job that I dread going to every day...Sorry to go on but I wanted to share this and state what stress does to me ..Im gonna go out and buy a lotto ticket and maybee ill get lucky hahaha .night Steve

Hi Steve, I agree with Shari. Life is to short. You only live life once so try to make it a happy one. Is there any way you can move to a sunny area? You seem to be happy when the sun is out. I know how it is with the cold winters. I live in Washington, and it can get pretty cold in the winter. Cold wet weather makes for sore joints. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a better job. Or win the lottery, which ever comes first!!!!

Take care,
Debora

Hi,
Life is short. Yes, but to people with chronic pain, it appears longer than it is...Havn't you experienced long nights during a flare when you toss about the bed waiting for the clock to strike six?!!

I also notice that stress affects me. My doctors favourite saying is don't be stressed! but we live in the real world. Heres hoping we win the lottery and can sit in the warm (its snowing hard here at the moment).

Dear Postal

Going back to work after a vacation is never fun. Have you thought about getting one of those lights that mimic natural sunlight? There is something called SAD , seasonal something disease, where people get very depressed and ill due to lack of sunlight. (like in far northern regions). These people are vastly improved by sitting under lamps with 'natural' sunlight, it kind of resets some natural balance. You might be super sensitive to some kind of light. Moving to Florida might not be in reach but a SAD lamp might. take care BlueNorthern

Hi all, I am new to this site, and most probably this message will vanish into cyber space knowing my luck.
But if it does end up where it should, i have had AS for near 15 years now, slowly over the years getting worse.
One thing i am sure about is that when i getted stressed out, i seem to aquire more pains in different places than i had before the "stress". And as you all say it is very hard not to get stressed in this day and age, not to mention having the AS to cope with to.
