Hello there fellow KickASer's!
I haven't posted for quite awhile, and so much going on here! WOW! Did you notice all the newbies?
Anyways, I have been having some shooting throbbing behind my eye, on and off for about a month now. I finally went to an Optomitrist, that I first checked if they knew about AS, and it's possible related eye problems. A Dr. from the office phoned me back, and made me feel he was on the up and up. So I had a thourough eye exam. minus the drops, as I didn't know he wanted to do that, and I didn't have a driver with me. So he said to come back in a week, finish the exam, and we'll see how I was doing.
So yesterday I went back. He did three different drops, really checked behind my eyeballs, said they were "quiet". Perfect in fact. I wanted to laugh, cuz I didn't know eyes could be noisy!
He couldn't see any problems, and can't explain why they would be hurting.
SO... anybody here want to take a shot at this??
Thanks,
Laura

Laura,
Quiet is good but probably not what you wanted to hear. The only thing I can offer is doubting that he can see behind the eyeball. My eye doc. said that, that was his limitation. If inflammation was occuring behind the eyeball, he wouldn't be able to dx it. Mine was slightly different as I accommidated him with scleritis too..which is inflammation of the whole eyeball. Are you light sensitive?
Hope it improves.
Klem

Hi Laura,

Once in a while, I am not careful about washing my hands before I put my supplemental tears in and then end up with some infection behind the eyes that is similar to the throbbing that you describe. However, if it was infection that you had, it should have been easily seen by your Optomitrist.

Eyes noisy? Maybe that is what started that old saying that "she has laughing eyes".

Hey young lady, next time you have an appointment and will be getting these drops, call me and I will take you.

George

Urla,

Some eye of the pain can from the neck, honest! Took some facet injections to personally take that on board.

Greater occiptal nerve goes over the top of the head, and lesser between the spine and ears arches over about 0.5 above the ears then forward to the upper jaw from their it can also get into the trigermals...ouch aghhh, typically the pain is outer lower eye but it can get behind as well.

You getting any face , neck occiptal pain?

I'd still keep an eye out for iritis, the eye infections can be very mild do you get any sleepy dust or discharge and these can quickly turn into eye itis.

what meds you on? some can be a persistent irritiation the eye

Good luck, get better.

Watch out for sudden changes in your vision blurring double vision etc, floaters! If I get that shooting pain I'm off to the Dr.s.....

David

Hi Laura, I recently went to an opthamologist here who's also knowledgeable about AS. I was also clear of iritis (whew), but he told me that the itchy, tender, achy, slightly sensative to sun, feeling like I always have something in my eye was more than likely due to dry eyes. He said it might be related to my AS, but felt it more likely that it was because of allergies and living in the big smoke of Toronto.

So, maybe yours are dry eyes, too.

Or a occiputal headache. Man, those suck.

Hope your eyes are feeling better soon.

Hugs,

Kat

Hi Laura,

All I can say is that since my first (and hopefully only) episode with Iritis, is that I have had eye pain on and off. Shooting pains coming out of the blue. Since the initial episode, I too have been told that all is quiet. I've also had some weird visual things going on, and have been sent to a neurologist. They found nothing wrong. I'm sorry that you are going through this, but boy, I can really relate!

Oh George,
Please tell me Dorrit will be driving!!
I don't have an infection, but probably have some light sensitivity, but I thought that was just age?( thanks for the Young lady comment!)
Anyways, the doc. did say to come in anytime I had a problem, esp. if things get worse.
Thanks, and hope you have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Headaches, eh! hmmmm...
He didn't ask about that, but my neck has been a little extra sore these days. I think I'm not watching my posture as I should. I have noticed an increased tightening in my neck, and top of the head, so...???
I haven't had any discharge, or anything, so I don't think it's an infection.
Thanks for the imput!

Hi Kat!
I do occassionally feel like there's something in my eye, but can't find anything. Never thought of that as being dry eyes!
As for pollution, well I'm not in a particularily polluted area, but that doesn't mean there aren't pollutents around. Never had typical allergies, and my eyes aren't itchy or watery. So, just a little mystery, but so far, nothing to worry about.
I do have a sister-in-law that works for a group of eye doctors, and she also knows what's going on in my life, so she suggested stress could be the culprit. Who knew?
Take care, and have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
Laura
