Thanks, Lisa. Unfortunately, flexeril gave me a rash. Zanaflex worked ok, but it started to give me halluciations. I guess I'll have to try another muscle relaxant, since skelaxin doesn't do very much for me.

Thank you for responding. What sucks is that I'm allergic to sulfa, so I can't take those. I'm also allergic to NSAIDs. I 'm on imuran and prednisone and Remicade. Remicade helps for a couple weeks and then I'm where I started.

Funny you should mention it...that spot is killing me right now. I've had it for many years, right along the spine. At this moment it's probably due to a big snowstorm we're having. But I also get it every time I use my arms for any extended period doing a task. I'm hurtin for certain right now.

Some doctors have decided the "between the shoulder blade" pain I have is from fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome (you can feel the knots in the muscles--ouch), and others think it's the arthritis. It's another area (like the recent neck-cracking post) that cracks if I move wrong or try to stretch. I took flexeril for years but had to stop to take another medication. Recently I've been trying Soma--it seems to help some but makes me really tired, it's a great one to take at bed time!

I've been taking SOMA for quite a while with no side effects (except it makes me sleepy, and since I take it at bed time this is a bonus) and hasn't lost its effectiveness. Without it I can't get a good night's sleep, I'm up every two hours, stretching and complaining

Hi Heather,

I have come to the conclusion that the stabbing pain in the scapula area is common in AS. I get it a lot, particularly if I have been sitting at a PC for more than an hour. It can be so painful across the shoulders that I can't bear people giving me a hug, so I have to settle for one of Debbie's electronic ones!

Thank you for raising this question. Although, I had assumed that my shoulderblade pain was due to AS, it's good to know I'm not alone with it.

Actually, it's 4 of my thorasic (? - I'm still learning the terminology) joints, right in the shoulder blade area, that are inflamed right now. Three of them have calmed down, but the top one just doesn't want to let go. I just figured that the burning and stuff was because of that, because you can feel the heat coming through my clothing sometimes. I type for a living, so there are days when I think I'm going insane from the discomfort.

When it really gets on top of me, I take Advil to complement the herbals that my naturopath has me on. I have a special homeopathic remedy for horrible days that works really well, too.

Hope you're shoulders are feeling better soon.

Inanna
