SPIDER!
What are you all most fearful of? Snakes, bees, spiders etc.? Have you ever had any bad encounters with them like I have?
Had a run in with the biggest, ugliest wood spider I have ever seen.
This thing looked just like a miniature turantula and boy was it ever ugly.
I remember when I moved here to islands I was telling my neighbor that I hate spiders and he told me that I shouldn't have moved here then, because the islands are full of them. Oh Wonderful! And he wasn't kidding!
Seems like whenever I meet up with one of these bad boys, they get the best of me.
Awhile ago one bit me in the hand while in bed and my hand swelled to enormous size. Kept telling hubby something was in the bed, but 'Nooooo" he said "your dreaming, go back to sleep."
Then it bit me.
Doc put me on antibiotics which did no good, so the next step was him lacerating it. "No way!"...I came home and did it myself.
I won't even tell you what came out of it. Took a week to get it all out though and I still have a hole in my hand from the bite.
As for the last attack, which just happened....
I was sitting here on the computer desk typing to my dear friends here at KA when all of a sudden this big huge thing came running across the desktop and aimed right for the keyboard
I screamed and tried to push against the desk to move the chair away. Little did I know the arm of the chair was broken (not fully glued or nailed on to it's support) and instead of moving the chair away,
I moved me away...right through the arm and onto the floor I went. OUCH!
I am dearly paying for it and the flare has begun.
Damn those 8 legged freaks!
I spray my home often to try and keep these things away, but the wood spiders are so big that nothing seems to keep them away. Would call the "Orkin Man" but he's so expensive. Any ideas?
So this leads me to ask...what are you all afraid of?

Hope your all having a good night.
Hugs,
Lisa

OMG!!!!!!!!!! Just reading your post got me all 'gorked-out'!!

Yes, I've had similar expierences with spiders. Brown Recluse spiders... their bite is close to what you've described. I was also bit while sleeping... right on the AS.
This happened twice!! I know what you mean about the stuff that comes out of the wound.... serious green/yellow, meshy kind of ooze. The second time it happened, I can remember the relief I felt when the abcess finally broke open. How sad is THAT?

I moved. I simply got the he** outta there. I had a child and pets and I was sick of getting bit. My ex was bit so badly on the hip bone, that if he had waited any longer to go to the Dr., they would have had to take his leg. He had a lump the size of a baseball on his hip bone. Bye-bye house.

I know it's not easy to pick up and move... I've heard of these sonar things you can get that send out an irritating sound to insects (only they can hear). Wood spiders, don't they usually like dark, cool spaces, like wood piles? (hense the name wood spider).
Maybe there is something simple about the house you can change that would keep them away? Hmmmm.... what other animal eats spiders??? I'd look on the internet and find out what the preditors are of the spider and get as many as I could for the home. But then again, I'm extremely paranoid of these little mothers....

Ooooh.... I wish you the best!! I hope you find something soon!! My skin is just crawling right now thinking about it!! [cry]

Keep me posted!

EWWWWWWW GICKY!!!!

What I hate more than spiders (which is a major hate btw lol) is flying bugs. Spiders I can squish. Flying bugs can land on ya....(shiver.. yucky!!) Now I'm not afraid of all bugs.... lady bugs are cool LOL. Just the freaky looking ones.

Now I don't know if this would work with the kind of spider you got bit by..... But when I was bit by a spider on the leg once years ago...You could see the poison traveling down my leg. It looked like a scab forming from the inside out and traveling down my shin. My doctor had me put ice on it right away for 15 minutes, then a heating pad for 15 minutes, and alternating this back and forth that way for a few hours. He said it confuses the poison as it is trying to spread, and since it can only last for so long it will die out. Sounded strange to me at first... BUT it worked!! Luckily I haven't been bitten in a long time.

I wish I had some answers on how to get rid of the spiders for you. The woodpile suggestion Stacie made is a good one. When we lived in Arizona, we had a wood pile out back, until we found out black widow spiders were using it as their high rise condo. Bye bye wood pile. And won't go into the tarantula my brothers found in the back yard and kept as a pet.... (shiver.... ewwwwwww)

Hope you get rid of the spiders soon. And if you can't get rid of them.... maybe you can train them to type if they want to keep running across the keyboard LOL

Take care,
Pam

YUCKY...............Spiders dont bother me, both of my boys will scream like little girls if they see one tho. What I dont like are those stupid June bugs. You know the ones with the hard bodies. They fly in your face, and I will cling to the ceiling if they get in my face, or any bug on my body. *shudder*
I did have a spider crawl up my arm at work the other day tho. I didnt realize it, as I was sitting there typing away and felt something on me. I went to brush it off, and it was a spider.

I let out a scream to end all screams. Chair hit the back wall of the office as I went flying out into the warehouse. Which of course was full of drivers and the guys I work with....You should of seen them come running when I screamed .

Guess I should feel very safe there eh?

Hope that you are feeling better soon Lisa.

Hugs,
Lori

Actually I think spiders, snakes, etc. are pretty cool....especially snakes. Scientifically I can appreciate pretty much every animal in nature. Of course I have a logical fear of the poisonous ones (we have a lot of Brown Recluses and Copperhead snakes in these parts).

But what I really despise, more than fear, are ANTS! Mostly because once they've found where you live, you know there are kajillions more of them. See one ant, and you'll see a whole nestful by the end of the summer! They're just intrusive, and they can get into ANYTHING.

So it's not really the animal itself that bothers me, it's sheer *numbers*!!!

OMG!!! What a horrible experience!

Regular spiders don't bother me, and luckily, where I live here in Canada we don't happen to have those big hairy ones..... but we do get spider bites every now and again, but nothing to the degree that you describe.

However.... I'm scared witless of snakes! Ever since I trod on the tail of one, and it wrapped itself up my leg with his head up my shorts I've been really scared of them!

(Ever tried running with a snake up your shorts? )

Yikes! You just creeped me right out Lisa I don't mind any other kind of bug or snake or bats (actually had a bat house once to attract them as long as they stay outside in their home territory. But spiders, well, if they creep up on me I freak, but I manage to get the suckers. I can see the kind of spiders I have been dealing with have been minor league to what you just described, WOW!

I'm checking my bed tonight

You sure didn't need that fall on top of everything else your dealing with. I hope you get some relief soon. Please take care

Hey Rox! I love your new photo

peace

That sounds scary. I hope you get some pest control company to come and de-spider your house. I would be living in fear of a repeat if I was you. To me it would be worth any money not to have to go through that again. Sure hope your feeling better soon and it doesn't happen again anytime!!!

Snakes/ Spiders? Flying things.......Huh. If you want to know fear.

well meet the wife!!!

8 chins, venomous, a prehensile butt coupled with a Tyson like left hook and always in a flap.

She instinctively regards me as her prey species, constantly houndsme and backs me into a corner where I adopt the well known defensive posture on hands and knees. I then utter the cringeworthy defence call.........

'Yes dear , straight away dear. Immediately dear, yes I do love you and I am very sorry dear'

Oh no give me a peckish Anaconda, or an intemperate Nile crocodile anytime..................
