If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Wow this rutin sounds to good to be true. Its not expensive, you don't need a prescription , it works better than prednisone and no side effects. I am going to get some today. I would love to throw all these drugs away. So approx 2000 mg per day is all it takes? What can it hurt to try. I'll let you know how it works. I just checked with the local health food stores and all the brands they carried had rice protein for a filler. So I am thinking this is not a good brand for NSD. Maybe I will try on line. Ginseng is not the same thing as ginger. Have you tried sweetening it? I put some in a cup with boiling water and honey and other spices like tumeric, another anti-inflamatory, and make myself a tea every morning, with some soy milk. Yeah, I know, sounds ucky, but if you put cinnamon in it and enough sweetener it's not bad. You could always buy separate empty gelatin capsules at some health food store type place and make your own ginger capsules if you can't bear the thought of tasting it. Sushi....seaweed.....eeeeehhhhh....can't hack it. One whiff and I think bait. My husband's always trying to get me to taste it. He tried rare tuna last week and he's talking about how good it is. Do I look like a seal? I am a land mammal, give me charcoal briquetts.

As wind_rider suggests, try sugar with ginger Allan. All chinese and/or asian food stores sell sachets of instant ginger with cane sugar (some health food stores may sell ginger and honey sachets). These still taste hot and spicy, but mellowed by the sweetener and very handy at work - makes a change from black (greeen) tea.... Ted "Auto-immunity or self-help - no decision"

Wow Linda ! I never tried such a high dosage before :-) I guess I should try that dosage, I am sure it can't hurt. Found the manufacturers hompage for your product (Kal) here: http://www.nutraceutical.com/search/results.cfm?RequestTimeout=5000&query=rutinDon't have time right now to read through all their info.. In a rush at the moment.. Here is a link to some really excellent quality information about Rutin. It also lists lots of abstracts from medical studies: http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/canada/healthinformation/encyclopedias/Rutin.aspLinda, make sure you tell us what other supplements, and diet/foods you are on, in case there is some kind of positive interaction. Hey all.....
I've found some Rutin here locally. It's the Swiss brand and it has no filler. Unfortunately, right after my first dose I got a real bad upset stomach....
Just what is in the Rutin? It says eucalyptus.... if this is so... how does it work as an anti-inflammatory?
I have continued to take it.... as I am continuing with the NSD.... but I am having a real bad flare, and I just can't seem to break it.

Zark,
You asked that I share my other supplements so here goes:
Calcium 334mg 3x/day (dairy results in horrible flare) Fish oil (Omega-3) 1000mg 3x/day Rutin 500mg 4x/day Centrum (multivitamin) HS (i.e., bedtime) Vitamin B complex HS Selenium 200mg HS Vitamin E 400mg HS Benadryl 50 mg HS (I've considered dropping this but it's over-the-counter, inexpensive, I have some hayfever, and it ensures an excellent night's sleep)
In addition I have Celebrex 200mg caps and Pred forte drops on hand as needed. My intuition tells me the Celebrex and Pred forte will outdate before they are expended thanks to rutin!
I have taken all of the above supplements and meds for several years (excluding the rutin). Since initiating the NSD in February of this year I have been able to discontinue the Celebrex 200mg 2x/day and also the Pred forte. I did, however, take it easy. I had just finished my master's degree, was not working, doing lots of reading/resting and my only physical activity was downhill skiing 3-4x/week for 3-4 hours/day, or walking 2-3miles, or riding a stationary bike for 30 minutes. AND I had to push myself to accomplish that as I did not feel very energetic. After taking the rutin for a few days I began to feel the increased energy and especially noted an improvement in the appearance of my eyes. This was a wonderful change for me as the axial spine and peripheral pains were annoying but never "show-stoppers" as I just took NSAIDs and hobbled around when things were tough. It wasn't until I developed chronic uveitis that I felt overwhelmed by this disease.
As far as diet goes I try to adhere to the NSD and no dairy but occasionally err. I usually have bacon and eggs for breakfast, perhaps ham or chops with a vegie for lunch, then beef or chicken or chops with vegies and fruit for dinner. I do have at least 5 servings of fruits and vegies daily. I enjoy as much butter and mayo as I want, rarely feel deprived, and never feel hungry. I did not lose weight when I began the NSD but since initiating rutin I have lost 5#. I believe this is due to the increased activity llevel due to increased energy level. In addition, I have noted a mild diuresis that I am attributing to the rutin.
Hope someone finds this all helpful!!
Later, LindaG

Thanks linda for your list of supplements, it could prove to be important ! Thanks for that PubMed abstract you posted. It menions Quercetin.. which is closely related to Rutin. Quercetin is another bioflavanoid (ie: another form of vitamin P). Note that the abstract says "Quercetin pentaacetate" appears to be more useful.. so there are other forms of quercetin.. Actually, I think their are different forms of Rutin as well. So it is a good idea to try different manufactureres, and also to find out what plant your product is derived from. "..Quercetin pentaacetate, but not quercetin and rutin, showed the strong inhibitory activity on PGE2 production and COX-2 protein expression in NLA/LPS or L-NAME/LPS co-treated RAW 264.7 cells. These results indicated that combinatorial treatment of L-arginine analogs and flavonoid derivates, such as quercetin pentaacetate, effectively inhibited LPS-induced NO and PGE2 productions, at the same time, inhibited enhanced expressions of iNOS and COX-2 genes."http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=11500931&dopt=Abstract"So long and thanks for all the fish" - Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy

Hi Maxine, Interesting that your supplement is made from eucalyptus !! Havn't heard of that before. My supplement is made from Buckwheat. But Rutin is cheap, and I think it is worthwhile experimenting with different manufacturers, and plant sources... I think I can vaguely remember getting some small tummy cramp the first few days I used it. Not sure if I am remembering this right though.. it may have been some other supplement?? One of the journal abstracts talked of a single lady having a mild transient reaction.. which means that the reaction to Rutin went away as she continued taking it. The doctors obviously believed Rutin to be safe, otherwise they would not have given it to pregnant mothers in this medical study ! Note that "HR" stands for rutin in this study: "Titapant V, Indrasukhsri B, Lekprasert V, Boonnuch W. 2001. Trihydroxyethylrutosides in the treatment of hemorrhoids of pregnancy: a double-blind placebo-controlled trial. J Med Assoc Thai 2001 Oct; 84(10): 1395-400.
The safety and efficacy of Trihydroxyethylrutosides (HR) in the treatment of 53 patients with 1st-2nd degree hemorrhoids of pregnancy (16th-34th week) was investigated in a double-blind randomised, placebo controlled trial. The dosage of Trihydroxyethylrutosides was 1 tablet of 300 milligrams twice daily for the first 2 weeks. If the treatment was successful, the treatment was stopped. If the clinical signs or symptoms still persisted, the treatment was continued for another two weeks using the same dosage and re-evaluated at the end of the fourth week after initial treatment. The parameters for efficacy were symptoms (pain, bleeding, exudation and pruritus) and the objective signs on proctoscopy (bleeding, inflammation and dilatation of the hemorrhoidal venous plexus). The study revealed improvement of symptoms in the study group which was better than in the control group after 2 weeks of treatment but the clinical signs were not different. After a further 2 weeks of treatment, the result showed improvement of both clinical signs and symptoms in this study. Only one mild transient side effect was reported in the HR group and there were no drug-related problems in the pregnancies, delivery or the babies."http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/canada/healthinformation/encyclopedias/Rutin.asp"So long and thanks for all the fish" - Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy
