Women get it every bit as bad as men Liz. There are one or two fallacies about AS, only though what was thought at the time but time and research has corrected them. Women not getting it or not getting it as severely as men is one such, as is the 20 year burnout when all will be well again. WellI have been waiting a tich more than 20 years for my burn out and am still waiting, ahhh well. Untrue also that as WRECKS YOUR LIFE AND SPOILS MENS GOOD LOOKS, NOPE i AM STILL A HANDSOME DEVIL........!!!!!

But thank you for clearing that up about women, I was very confused and wondered if I should be thankful for being a woman lol, and wondered just how bad it could get!!

Laughing at the 20 year burn out. Must be that we age so well our bodies don't know that they have had it for over 20 years. hey.. will be coming up 40 years for me!!!

Now, I am signing out as that last statement just made me sound ancient :0)

I think the present stats suggest that many women will have a milder disease process in terms of progressing to fusion/damage (yet not in terms of pain) in comparison to men -- however, there is a subset of women that will have poor radiographic outcomes similar to men.

Not sure that I've worded that particularly well.

And men remain handsome too.

Oh yes, I forgot that little detail in the AS studies. Goodness but you are in fine form today, Alan! lol

just wanted to say hello, welcome, and i am so sorry you had to endure all of this for so long without any answers

Welcome Liz! You have certainly been through the mill. I can only imagine the anger you feel after realizing there was a possible diagnosis so long ago.

I was misdiagnosed with RA at 15 and when I seemed to go into remission at 19, I ignored the little flare ups that happened through the years until last year when I could not deny it any longer.

It seems we also shared the madness that made us have many children as well.
