Yesterday i went to DR, last blood test for cholesterol level was 10X bad cholesterol (its over 10). Dr say straight out, if i dont change my diet, i will have stroke or heart attack within the next 2 years.
Im only 38 & id like to see 40.
My uncle died of heart attack at age 45 (dads younger brother) neither of my dads parents lived past 50. My Grandfather on mum's side died at 60 of heart attack also after a heap of bipass surgery.

The lipidil drugs DR prescribed contribute to me AS pains - but at least ill still be alive to feel the pain!

Oh Darryn, I'm so sorry. I am wondering if I'm heading in the same direction. Most of my fat consumption is in the form of olive oil. I'm not sure if that will help my case.

What are your plans? Eat and be merry? smile

I read on Dr.yourself.com that niacin lowers cholesterol. There is a study posted on the net that even shows niacin performing better than the top pharmaceutical (can't remember it's name, sorry, I have pudding for brains tonight.)

Take Care,
Donette

thanks for the support. I wont be eating and being merry at all, lol. I got a CD and booklet with the lipidil 145mg tables. Ill just try eating what ever they recommend.
Eg. i was eating bacon and eggs for breakfast, now i dont know what im gonna eat, but its not going to be bread. I was thinking of getting Oats (but they are as starchy as the day is long.)
I got some of that cholesterol reducing milk, ill drink that until i can find something to eat. As far as the NSD goes - ILL BE BACK. soon as i can get this soup for blood sorted.

Jet - my husband had raging high cholesterol even though he's a very slim man and cut almost all fats out of his diet (except the critical omega 3s that I made him keep consuming). Nothing seemed to help until he started eating oatmeal porridge for breakfast. At his next doctor visit, to his astonishment, his cholesterol had gone completely back to normal. The doctor was amazed. I've since read that this is one of the benefits of oats.

oh man, good luck.

My breakfast is usually a few green grapes (very few because of my sugar probs) and almond butter. For some reason it tastes good together.

That is really good you got your numbers checked. I think you have avoided something really bad.

Again, good luck.

Doh! That's a bummer jet....lucky for Jon the NSD hasn't pushed up his cholesterol...rather it went down.

But everyone's makeup is different and I guess if high cholesterol runs in your family it's prob no surprise you that have it too frown

Thank you for your input and words of support. Sorry to hear you have had similair issues.
When i rang my mum just now and asked about my grandpaps 3 heart attacks, bipass surgeys & cholestrol levels apparently back then they didnt have test for high cholestrol or anything. Thank god we can now get tested to be made aware we are approaching or beyond "the danger zone". Hopefully we will reach a ripe old age if we do the right thing. You take care too...... hugss
