Since the onset of my hip pain during pregnancy and subsequent AS diagnosis, there has been only one time (until the no starch diet) that the pain was in remission - halfway through my pregnancy.

I had a suspicion, that because this was during the time I took a course of the antibiotic Macrobid for a Urinary Tract Infaction, that the Macrobid may have been the postive culprit.

I have another course of Macrobid that I didnt take, it has been sitting in my drawer for a few months, now I am eyeing it with renewed interest... especialy after reading on this site that Ebringer says Macrobid kills klebisella.

Should I take it?

I worry about the risk of becoming an antibiotic junkie if it works... and I hear of course its not good to OD on antibiotics as you can become resistant.

Any thoughts?

I would run it past your doc first, just in case. Alot of people advise against using antibiotics to treat AS due to potential side effects, but I think if 1) it works for you 2) the side effects are minimal and 3) you've tried the alternatives without success... I think "those" people would have to agree to tell you to go for it!
Myself, I have had some amazing results with antibiotics, but I couldn't tolerate the side effects. If I didn't have side effects, I would have stayed on the stuff forever.
I know Dragonslayer has talked about doing short periods of antibiotics in conjunction with NSD. There is a protocol out there for that.
Good luck! Hope it does the trick.

Conventional antibotics have worked for my AS in the past. 15 yrs ago I noticed antibotics relieved my back pain, so I asked the osteopathic DO doctor I was seeing at the time if this was common and if he would write me a rx. He put me on minocycline 50mg every other day for one month. It took care of all or most of the pain. I lived a normal life. If I felt a flare I would once again take minocycline for a month. For some reason I stopped doing this and I can not for the life of me remember why. Will just reasonally I asked my naturopathic dr. about an rx and she recommended only using antibotic as a last resort because she had me on natural antibotics. Well I wanting to try minocycline again because I was hoping conventional antibotics would be less expensive and I could do the every other day for a month and then be done. I found a nurse practioner who has AS to write me a rx. Boy did that not work. I had lots of side effects. The worst was a yeast infection, anxiety and insomnia. I now appreciate my natural antibotic and hope that I can afford them or I'm in trouble. My understanding is that conventional antibotic kill the good and the bad bacteria, whereas the natural antibotic are more prone to fight off the bad bacteria and help with fungi (candida), parasites and metal toxicants. I do not know if this is the right route to take, but I started to go crazy and could not function in society. I now live a pretty normal life. I work 30 hrs a wk. And since I have started the LSD I only take 1 Aleve at night. I know I have rambled on long enough. I hope I have helped answer your question. As I tell most people you are your best dr. Take care!

What are 'natural antibiotics' that your naturopath has you on? I have never heard of the natural kind! Only the pretty little pill kind, haha

My apology for not getting this info to you sooner. Life just got busy. I am on Enula by NatrMedix and Una de Gato by Generation II. These have been specifically recommended to me by my naturopathic physician. This dr. has help me immensely, although I live in Idaho and she in Seattle Washinton. I have been to see her once in person, but the majority of my visit with her are over the phone. If you are interested I can give you her phone # in a personel message. A warning though my meds have to be change quartely which can be expensive. If cost is not a problem for you go for it.

How exciting you are prego! I hope and pray you're pregnancy is going well? I am so thankful all of my pregnancy went well, except my middle one I probably should not have gone watersking and had my first two so close together. They are 18 mo apart. I have 3 daughters. Children are such a blessing.

How did you find out so quickly that you have AS? Does it run in your family? I am from a family of 6 and I am the only one who has shown symtoms of AS. I have a cousin on my mom side who has it actively. I went through several dx before I became aware I have AS. It has only been a few months that I have realized I have AS.
