That's a cool map. Dont' like that hurricane sitting on it, but a cool map none-the-less.
How'd your drive go?

Hopefully you guys aren't buried under too much water.

I didn't go anywhere Sarah...we're staying...I listed all of my valid reasons for making this decision up above somewhere. We've been here since Gustav because there are still power outages in New Orleans. I'm going to report to yall from here until the power goes out...the winds are about 40 mph right now, the hurricane is going to make landfall here tonight, they're estimating between 10 o'clock and midnight.

Michelle,

You, your family and anyone involved in the paths of these things have been in my thoughts and prayers every day.

My heart is resting a bit better knowing that Bill is on his way home from Houston and should be home at about 6.

I hope and pray that it will dissapate (sp?) as it moves inland, it's like hasn't the area suffered enough???

Just know we are all keeping in our thoughts and prayers and God will have you wrapped in his arms.

Please keep us updated.

Many hugs,

Lisa

Lisa, thank you for keeping us in your prayers....keep them up...we need them, we are already seeing some minor flooding and it hasn't even started raining yet...ya would know that I'd decide to ride it out the only time the weather people weren't crying wolf! I'm glad that Bill is out of Houston.....Kristen and Erica(Not my Erica, Kristen's best-friend Erica) were turned around and sent back but they're 10 minutes further inland at Erica Nelson's house, I'm thinking that the flooding won't be as bad there.

hey Michelle...I knew you were riding it out there, but I thought you were going to go for a drive to see what was happening before the 10am curfew. Oh heck, I guess I got confused with something else. I'm so brain dead. I've decided I want to go clean Shamu poop for a living.

No Sarah...you're not confused...I am! We went for a drive, the water was already over the boat launch at Shell Beach....and some roads that run alongside the beach are covered and the entire beach is under water ..you can't see the sand at all. The rains started about 10 minutes ago and I think we'll lose power in the next couple of hours (it took 6 weeks to get power bach here after Rita). We saw a lot of National Guardsmen all around and we saw a whole fleet of Chinook helicopters fly over to the staging area. My sister just called to tell me that my Mother's Shi-Tzu, Tofu was killed in an accident during the evacuation, she said Mom is just totally beside herself....he's been her constant companion for the last 14 years.

Hi Michelle - I didn't know if you had been able to get in contact with any of us here yet and wanted to see if all was well. Sue!

Hi Sue, I haven't heard from Michelle either and don't think she's been on since the storm hit.

From what I gather, she was awfully close to the coast (less than 5-10 miles?) and only 90 miles east of Galveston, so considering the eye of the storm was 50 miles wide.. she figured she'd be just north east of the eye, which is the most treacherous area apparently.

Oh dear, I just found this report (from the associated press):
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Hurricane Ike spared Louisiana a direct hit, but its winds and waters killed two people as coastal areas were inundated with a storm surge that crawled some 30 miles inland, flooding tens of thousands of homes and making many roads impassable.

I also found a report that says Cameron has been declared one of the federal disaster areas! She said she was right BETWEEN Cameron and Lake Charles!!

And another report from Hackberry, an area just to the other side of Lake Charles and farther inland from Michelle's location was severely flooded so I can only imagine her area was as bad or worse. She's experienced with these and one tough cookie but still... I'm really afraid for her and just praying she's ok.

MICHELLE we hope to hear from you soon!
