My inflammation is and has always been like putting your hands around a hot cup of coffee. My sacro joints, when angry, and having a flare are so hot to the touch. When I dabbled in physical therapy the ladies were always like your low back is so warm. I know its inflammation, does anyone else experience this?

Oh Yes Lotus - over the years - thru the fusion - I give off heat - I crave heat - I am pretty much fused now - but I sleep with a heating pad - I literally burn one up a year - and yes it is dangerous.

It took me many years to realize that Ice packs will trully stop the pain by making the area numb. Ice is tough to get used to - but now I look forward to getting home and laying on gel packs so I can stop the spasm or whatever.

I can also get a few feet away from something throwing off heat - like a television and feel the heat radiating - my body gravitates towards it!

Heating and cooling - it is the lifestyle for me!

Brian

Yes, Sweetie I am right there with you...I think that is why I have probly over-used the prednisone for the last 7 years..for me it is the ONLY thing that will work to knock it out.

I hope you find something to help you and can feel better,

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi Lotus,
My joints get hot also. My husband (funny man)kind of takes advantage of it though. He understands that they hurt, but when my hand is inflamed, he just wants me to lay my hand on his back. (just like a man, always wanting a back rub)
It's wierd though, some areas I just can't put ice on. I can put it on my heel, it really helps it. But there's no way I could put it on my SI joints. Take care, Wanda

Lotus - I use some gel packs made by "Chatanooga Group" - many online stores sell them - many sizes - I have enough to use 2 at a time for 3 hours - 6 or 7

I got mine out of Arizona somewhere - they are not light and shipping can get up there - maybe a local source has them for you?

The gel packs flex and conform - if I am being a chicken - I put a towell between them and me.

PM me if you would like to know more

Brian

I end all my PT sessions with 10 minutes of ice all over my back and hips. Heat makes me hurt like all get out.

lol i dont know why but applying ice/cold packs to me will do the opposite effect then what is expected... it will increase inflammation, will cause swelling and my skin will turn really hot right under the application. As a PT ive never seen this reaction on anybody else. Could explain why i have asthma triggered by cold air too... somehow, cold = no no for my body heh. I wish i could explain this one, even my PT co-workers were speechless on that one

Anyone else here with intolerance to ice/cold?

That does happen to me. I'll be on fire under my clothes, you can feel the heat right through. I use cold packs which seem to help a bit.
