Welcome and of course, you are scared. The unknown always scares us. Stay here for the support. Educate yourself all that you can. One thing my dr. told me years ago "A diagnosis doesn't really mean anything. You already have it so today getting a diagnosis doesn't mean that you have something you didn't have yesterday. It just means that now we know what we are dealing with." Somehow that just made sense to me that nothing has changed since the day before but now we know better how to treat it.

WELCOME!

I was actually happy to be diagnosed, cause i finally knew what i was fighting and stopped being a malingerer (is this the right word? found it in a dictionary, never heard it and sounds a bit weird, so hope you understand )
AS is no fun, but knowing the enemy helps. the one good thing about it is, it brought you here!
take care!

hi... i just have to ask... ratbag??

here's the good news... you found us rather quickly & we don't care how many questions you ask!

AS is complicated, confusing & scary... BUT... you aren't alone anymore! it's very unusual for a topic to come up that no one has experience with. please don't be shy!

WELCOME!

gentle hugs,
teddi

keep smiling... it matters! FYI-Because of its literal definition ("fear of the marketplace"), agoraphobia is often misunderstood as a fear of crowds or a fear of open spaces. The clinical definition of agoraphobia is a fear of situations or places "from which escape might be difficult (or embarrassing) or in which help may not be available in the event" of a panic attack.

Ratbag, welcome to KA!!

Fear is natural after a diagnosis like this. Fear for the future, fear for yourself, your family, the unknown. We've all been there, honest. You are in some extremely good company.

As much as they love us, family rarely understands. Hell, no-one who hasn't experienced a life of pain understands. All we can do (I said this to someone else this week) is smile and go scream into a pillow. And try to remember that they mean well and are worried about us. This disease does affect them, but in a very different way.

I'm glad you found us. This place and these people rock!

Hugs,

Kat

Welcome to KA!

No, you're definitely not a nutter--being scared of AS, iritis, and any number of other tricks this illness has up its sleeves is completely understandable and universal among our membership, I would venture to guess.

What I want to know is what's going on over there across the pond when you new members pick your user names--not long ago, Snotbox joined our little family here, and now Ratbag. I know from kaz (snotbox) that we aren't dealing with any self-esteem issues (no way, right kaz? You'll shout our your name loud and proud! *grin*), so we'll have to look for other reasons for this influx of wonderfully off-kilter names. Makes me feel that my nick is positively boring! (which it is, but hey, it wasn't something I put too much thought into!)

Again, welcome and hope to see more of you.

Brad
