Actually, George, I account it to all the East Coasterners transplanted to Ontario for bringing 'eh' into this part of the country.

I read a definition of the word once, eh.

It said that 'eh' is added to give the other person a chance to disagree, if they do, indeed, disagree with what is being said, eh.

Hugs,

Kat

Isn't that being too nice to the other person? Why not say that you are giving the other person a chance to AGREE with you? It's better for one's ego.

East Coasteners? love it!

If I may

"have another beer, eh"

is at best enigamtic. It may be sarcastic, it may be earnest, it may be humorous and it is clearly mystifying in the possible connoatations it embraces and yet without the "eh" it is probably a mere offer of another beer.

As one who grew up in New York and was educated in Philly (delphia) I can only offer "yo, wassup wid dat 'eh' and its multiple nuance thingamabob."

I think I'll have another beer, EHHHH. (Perchance could the miracle morphing "eh" be celebratory when referencing the raising of a beer?)

Hopefully you'd offer neither condolence or congratulations but rather awe inspired praise. For what other country than these United (well not for the moment) States could turn the debate over the better widget into a rivalry of such epic proportions.

Wdgets are after all just widgets. We do, however, once choosing the widget of our choice fight to the death for that widget and fight to preserve the right of our brethren to say all the awful things they choose to say about our now recently chosen favorite widget. A pretty wonderful thing if you have the time to really think about it.

So, here's to the new boss same as the old boss.
